STUDY PLAN AT LEOBEN UNIVERSITY FOR MASTER

IN INDUSTRIAL ENERGY TECHNOLOGY

Introduction
My name is Dedi Rachmat Kusumadi. I am a male with age is 35 years. I graduated in major of
electrical specially in Energy Concentration (degree with 4 scales). At this time I work as
employee for Pusdiklat Migas (Education and Training Center for Oil and Gas) under Ministry
Energy and Mineral Resources of Republic of Indonesia. Specific of my organization is provide
training in oil and gas industry. I am an instructor in electrical and instrumentation. In other hand
I also hold as head for Instrumentation Laboratory Dept. and supervise 8 personnel. I also as
Technical Manager for calibrating measure equipments. Calibration Laboratory that I lead
already accredited by National Committee for Accreditation (KAN) of government Indonesia
with register number is LK-035-IDN. The scope of calibration authority are electrical, pressure,
mass, density, volume, and temperature.

My previous job experience is as an instructor on Pusdiklat KEBT- (Electrical and Renewable


Energy). This organization provides training in electrical technology and alternative energy.
Pusdiklat KEBT is institution commissioned by government of Republic of Indonesia. Subjects
course that I giving is more hit source utilization energy alternative as effort to economize usage
of fossil fuel.

Background to Advance Study


The comparison between availability and demand of energy in Indonesia at this time, in fact the
availability of fossil energy owned by Indonesia is going to decrease. Crude oil exporting has
been stopped, even at this time Indonesia conducts to import crude oil from Middle East.
Indonesia has exited from OPEC membership right now. Source of fossil energy that used by

people so influence to daily file. Transportation sector that is important infra-structure for
development is influenced by this energy. Whereas utilization new energy and energy alternative
has been a few conducted because of treatment problem and lack of popularity energy are
referred as geothermal, solar, micro hydro, biomass, is some examples energy alternative that
ought to developed.

Recently government of Indonesia starts serious to gain potency of alternative energy as referred
above. Despite that, activity for optimal of utilization fossil fuel also continue conducted. The
usage of saving fuel for transportation can be conducted by using of engine with modern
technology with mechanism certain system to reach high efficiency. Hybrid machine has been
proven economize fuel and pollution reduction, but economically this technology not
commercial right now. Some supplement addition chemistry for fuel also can be used but from
price facet is not economic.
I have conducted research by exploit water as supplement of fuel to improve efficiency of
engine. Sub system that I make so simple until easy attached at car engine. Sub system works to
produce soft aqueous vapors which are mixed with vapors fuel in chamber of internal
combustion engine. This sub system I named Engine Moisturizer. The soft aqueous vapors
functioned as cover of vapors fuel in order to not burn early at high moment of compression step
happens. In other hand this soft aqueous vapors will add mass amount in burning chamber, until
when release energy along with vapors fuel will increase of output power. I have used sub this
system more than 6 month and there is no effect of machine damage. In harsh measurement, I
can save fuel as high as 10% to 15% with standard engine (stock car).
Base aforementioned reason, I want to improve my research to be more advance of the usage of
water as fuel supplement so, I can save fuel more higher next. And also, furthermore research
hits possibility to replace fossil fuel by water. My research concept is by exploited waste energy
when car engine works to activate a reactor. My Reactor I named as TVE-Thermal Vacuum
Electrolysis. I hope I can realize my research in Leoben University because I saw there is
department matching with my research direction.

Study Plan
Base my reason and enthusiasm strong to create an innovative energy so, I want to continue my
study in the field of Industrial Energy Technology. My goal finish study timely, I will strive to
realize this condition. Austria is European Union that use German for everyday communication.
I will never, but I will take German training to facilitate communication in academic and daily
file. For residence, I will rent dormitory or student hostel near with university. In principle
residence that I use maybe located in strategic place, close to Asia shopping center, library,
bookstore, access internet, and transportation.
I expect fund during study fully supported by university or government of Indonesia. To my
study fluency, I will obey all Austria government ordinances also, regulation that published by
university.
During study in Austria, I will search and become member of student organization for academic
activity fluency. And also become member of student of Indonesia-Asia organization, and maybe
student organization from others country to get sharing hit life in Austria.

Year #1
Pre-Semester
First year is a period of full activities. The adaptation of socials culture just need hard work, but I
am sure I can do it very well. Communication constraint is the usage of German in daily file. I
will take German courses, and intensively exercise using German. Second is about food problem.

I am an Asian that become accustomed Asian food. This problem can be solved if I can find
place of need Asia shop, or also if I can find vegetarian menus that usually available. The next is
weather, mostly temperature in Europe that recognized with its winter. I will prepare warmness
clothes, stocking, gauntlet, and all properties that I can make warm.
This first year so denseness until I must really at very healthy condition and strong.
In the beginning I will search residence place, manage health insurance, conduct registration to
university, and manage important documents for permission remain and academic activity.
I must conduct equalization of my academic report so, I can convert it with existing course
subjects and I didn't need to repeat study of subject course that is same. So I can focus for study
and research.

Semester-1
In this semester I must follow class that is Energy Supply that consists of as follows:
Processing of Energy Raw Materials
Electrical Energy Engineering
Materials for power engineering
Power Plants and electrical Energy Systems

I also will take training that support course above. In other hand at this semester I will conduct
much adaptation at academic environment and Austrian society.

Semester-2
In this semester I must follow class that is Energy Utilization that cover course as follows:
Turbo and Piston Machines
Alternative drive Concepts
Electrochemical storage and transformation of energy
Thermal power engineering
Process Design and Optimization of Combined Heat and Power Plants
Project "Industrial power engineering"

In other hand I also must start conduct preparation for research.
Year #2
Semester -3
In this semester I must follow class that is Energy Management that cover course as follows:
Technical energy management
Environmental Controlling
Energy Market and Industrial Management
Energierecht

I also should be able to intensify my research in order to study time plan. I also will follow
courses that support my research about innovative technology for saving energy.

Semester #4
In semester this I must conduct research finalization and all existing course. I will work stringent
to realize this condition. I will add knowledge and skill by follow courses and seminar that
support my research. And I must ready to follow research test.

PROJECT TITLE:

THERMAL VACUUM ELECTROLYSER ON INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

Introduction

Liquid fuel is economy activator, and at this time still a lot use fluid if compared to gas. This fuel is used
because easy repository consideration and higher safety than gas. To get engine performance, fuel
composition must have high quality. This certifiable fuel is produced by refinery by processing certain.
Getting higher fuel quality so, fuel processing also growing difficult and expensive. Of course the end
product result that is fuel also will be expensive.

If we use fuel with low octane number for engine with high compression, then efficiency of engine will
go down because of appearance pre-ignition that result in combustion chamber. Because fuel is not
burned out perfectly, then engine performance will go down and frequently encrust carbon that
remained in chamber, such as carbon at piston surface, valve, exhaust gas manifold and others. In other
hand imperfect combustion also will produce CO gas with high concentration, where this is dangerous
conditions for environment.

Literature Reviews

The utilization of water (H2O) for alternative energy resource is already investigated by some experts.
One of them is electrolysis method to dissociate Hydrogen and Oxygen from its bonding. Yull Brown and
some other researchers use this method to make welding machine and other same thing. In other hand
electrolysis is also used to produce Hydrogen and Oxygen and mixed with main vapors fuel in chamber
to get high mass concentration. For this method many experimenter got improvement result that
different each other.

We must pay attention for heat in the cell that produced in electrolysis method. If too much heat that
produced, oxygen and hydrogen gas will be slimmer than aqueous vapors (H2O) its self. There are crust
at surface of electrodes when use conventional electrolysis method. Longer usage, the crust will growing
thick so, maintenance should have to do periodically to clean surface electrodes. Other disadvantage
this method is power consumption when taken electrolysis if compared with energy output. Energy
consumption to break water molecules is higher than output energy. This condition will make internal

combustion engine is under performance because some of powers are taken away from small generator
at engine. In other hand there should be apply protector system that reliable because big current will
make cable system, terminals, and fuse are encumbered weight.

The system that built is the very simple, not many need treatment. This system is designed until
everyone can install swimmingly at their vehicle. In other hand only need small source of electric energy
that not encumber performance of main system.

Research Objective

This research focus for searching alternative technology to economize fuel by exploit aqueous vapors by
electrolysis use high voltage in vacuum condition. The reactor is made in such a manner so its can apply
vacuum that happened when engine works. This reactor is expected can produce hydrogen and oxygen
gas in high quantity. The result is addition of hydrogen mass and oxygen mass in burning chamber. The
fusion reaction will happen than will produce big energy output. Also, possibility to reduce pollutants
from exhaust gas so its environmentally friendly.

Preliminary Work

I have tried the effect aqueous vapors that mixed with fuel vapors at conventional car. The result that I
got is power reinforcement and fuel consumption become go down. Saving of estimation is around 10%
to 15%. This experiment already installed in some cars, and no engine damage reported. This system
already I installed on my car more than 8 month, and till now engine still under normal circumstances.
Based on this reason, I want to more improve my research scientifically by make a reactor that I named
TVE-Thermal Vacuum Electrolyser. With supported scale measuring instrument lab, I expect to get
correct value of all parameters composition in order to get engine works with optimal and fuel efficient.

Research Methodology

Research methodology that I use is experimental setup. By make a simple circuit and install on engine
without conduct many modifications to engine. The engine that used is Internal Combustion Engine with
four strokes with gasoline fuel.

Tentative Time Schedule

This research execution is planned finish for 8 month.
