Following up on my homily last weekend, I want

the weekend. This is a wonderful way to meet
some of those people you sit next to each
weekend. Also of course we have the parish raffle.
Tickets are still on sale, and we are hoping to reach
our goal of $60,000 in raffle sales.
Finally, in the Church the month of October has
traditionally been devoted to the intercession of
Mary under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary. It is
a time when we as individuals and families are
invited to practice the long standing tradition of
reciting the rosary as part of our prayer life. The
rosary is one of the most traditional forms of prayer
we have in our Church. Although the origins of the
rosary are sketchy, evidence exists from the Middle
Ages that strings of beads were used to count Our
Fathers and Hail Marys. The structure of the rosary
gradually evolved between the 12th and 15th
centuries. During the 16th century, the structure of
the five-decade rosary based on the three sets of
mysteries prevailed. Tradition holds that St. Dominic
(d. 1221) devised the rosary as we know it today.
Perhaps this month can provide the opportunity for
those who have drifted from this prayer form or are
not familiar with it to welcome it into their
experience. Families may wish to pray the rosary
together as part of evening or bed time prayers.
