ACKNOWLEDGMENT

“Life is an easy journey with friends and loved ones- it is when sorrow is

divided and joy is multiplied.”

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to the people

and institutions that were always there to help and share life’s ups and downs.

Without them, the realization and success of this study could have been only a dream.

This qualitative research would not be realized without the help and guidance

of the panelist:

Dr. Jose Elmer S. Oficiar, for sharing his time in making corrections and

giving advice that made our study even better. We are so thankful to have him as our

panel because he was so supportive on the kind of study that we are into;

Prof. Earl Jones G. Muico, for unselfishly giving his genuine support,

invaluable suggestions to enrich the work;

Prof.Mervin A. Osic, for giving constructive corrections and suggestions to

improve the manuscript. We are very thankful to him for always reminding us to

remember why we have started this journey.

Dr. Helen F. Fungo, our data analyst who really helped us to finish our

research study. She showed us how passionate a teacher should be to her students.

Without her, the success of this undertaking is very impossible.

Prof.LarcyneilPascual, our editor, who invested patience in reviewing and

correcting our manuscript. His expertise in grammar, whose corrections and

suggestions contributed a lot for the substantial improvement of our study.

Most especially, Dr. Pamela A. Batiao, our adviser who had kept an eye on

us in this journey. She may not be as sweet as the other advisers, but for us, we are

very fortunate to have the best adviser ever. Even though she had a very busy

schedule, she always found time to accommodate us and give us words of wisdom to

finish our study.

In recognition of the assistance extended by our supporters, we sincerely

acknowledge the following:

To our informants and participants, “thank you” is not enough to show our

gratitude to them for sharing their precious time and their meaningful experiences,

thus making my study possible.

To our friends, for making us feel that we are not alone in this journey and that

they never missed to cheer us whenever we feel stressed or pressured.

To our parents and siblings- our family, for providing moral and financial

support and materials used in this project.

Above all, to the Almighty God for His Divine Providence- the exorbitant

energy and encouragement that counted most in defeating the arduous task inherent in

this journey.

Dedication

A prepared mind and a persevered heart- these are our instruments

to make this undertaking a success.

In life where we face different problems and fight our own battles,

it is very essential to have people, who would rejoice with you in

your victory and cry with you in times of defeats.

This study is dedicated to our parents, who are always willing to

support our needs to make this study possible and provide us financially.

It is also dedicated to our teachers, who taught us that knowledge is

best acquired when learned for its own sake. To our panel members and
professors involved for making our journey meaningful and to thrive in
learning.

To everyone who gave their endless love, support and

encouragement.

Above all, we humbly dedicate this to our Almighty God for being
the best provider and making impossible possible.

ABSTRACT

This phenomenological study focuses on analyzing poems with literary images using

psychological criticism approach. Poetry has been part of a human existence. Into

some extent, it refers to the patterns of human activities. But as the visible changes

that are being manifested in the world of literature today, the interpretation of

different literary pieces, poems to be specific has been a mind-boggling activity.

Hence, to gather more insights and interpretations from the poems generated in each

era, we conducted a qualitative research and interviewed 14 participants, 7 for in-

depth and 7 for focus group. Triangulation of data was made through the data sources

of the In-depth interview, Focus Group Discussion and we the researchers as the third

informants. The findings were classified into major themes in the different features of

romance. The different literary features identified are: Connotation, Denotation,

Symbolism, Imagery, Hyperbole, Simile and Personification. Furthermore, with these

findings we come up with emerging interpretations from the view of young

professionals and these are the major themes generated: distinctness as influenced by
