Part 4 Landfill
Selikor NV (state-owned) operates the Malpais landfill, a 45 hectare area in the middle of
Curacao. Waste disposed of in the landfill is first compacted and then covered daily with soil in
compliance with international sanitation standards.
Koral Specht transfer station facilitates transportation process and increases efficiency. At the
transfer station all waste collected from the Banda Ariba (East) area of the island is compacted
and stored temporarily in silos. Afterwards, the silos are transported from Koral Specht to
Malpais. The waste is emptied out of the silos for final disposal in the landfill.
