Summary
This 20 week introductory certificate programme is ideal for you if you wish to develop your skills in Media Arts. You will learn the basic
knowledge and skills you'll need to start your career in Visual Arts and Design, Communication, or Commercial Music.

The programme includes generic study skills as well as specialist skills in visual arts, music or communication. If you successfully
complete the Certificate, you will be eligible to compete on merit for entry into the Bachelor of Media Arts, Bachelor of Communication, or
Bachelor of Design programmes.

Your Study Environment

Your study will take place in learning environments within Wintec which suit the specialist teaching areas. These include music studios,
computer labs, art rooms, news rooms and editing suites. It also includes the use of specialist equipment like digital SLR cameras and
design so ware.

Your specialist subject tutors include researchers, academics and industry practitioners, many of whom also teach on the Bachelor of
Media Arts and are active in their creative industry domains. 

Skills for Tertiary Study

Core classes are taught alongside specialist subjects and aim to develop your study, research and writing skills to prepare your for tertiary
study. These are taught by sta with a keen interest and skill in foundation education.

Support and Recognition

You will have access to a range of formal and informal support when required. Your achievements will be celebrated in an exhibition and
musical performance at the end of the course

What You'll Learn


You will study 8 modules (or equivalent), in order to graduate with a Certificate in Media Arts (minimum 60 credits in total). This will
include 4 core modules and 4 modules from your chosen pathway (Visual Arts, Communication, Design or Commercial Music). 

If you meet the selection criteria for more than one endorsement, it is possible to study electives from di erent endorsements.

Four Core Modules:

Study Skills: Learn the principles and methods of e ective learning, identify learning styles, develop and implement study
programmes and set goals.
Written Communication: practical written skills from paragraph and essay writing structures, writing for purpose, and reflective
writing processes.
Interpersonal Communication Skills: listening and assertiveness, speaking, non-verbal communication and leadership styles.
Explores problem solving and negotiation as approaches to conflict resolution.
Media Portfolio: develop a portfolio of work, including a contextual description and a self-reflective review of your work.

Commercial Music elective modules are Song Writing, Music Technology, Music Studies and Performance.

Communication elective modules are Journalism, Moving Image, Public Relations/Advertising and one of either Photography or Graphic
Design.

Visual Arts elective modules are Moving Image, Painting/Sculpture, Photography and Graphic Design.

Design electives include Fashion Design, Spatial Studies, Graphic Design and Public Relations/Advertising.

Career/Further Opportunities
When you've successfully completed this course, you are welcome to apply for entry into the Bachelor of Media Arts, Bachelor of
Communication or Bachelor of Design programmes.

Application Process
1. Check that you meet the entry criteria
2. Submit your application to enrol form as well as:
a verified copy of your academic results (or a summary of your work experience).
a portfolio of your work (tips for creating your portfolio can be found here).
3. Receive acknowledgement of your application
4. Application assessed by the Bachelor of Media Arts review panel
5. Interview with one of our tutors - This is an opportunity to review your study plans and discuss opportunities within the School.
You may be asked to write a short essay on a current event at your interview
6. Application outcome - You will receive a letter advising you of the outcome of your application
7. Confirmation of entry - Letter confirming placement to be returned to the School
