1.0 Content : Relevant information for the intended position that I have obtained
from the talks.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone

Even as a student, I learn that at some point and to some extent, we might have to do
something that we’re not even comfortable. What we need to do is to be quick in adjustment
in order to comply with other’s expectation. We have to see the big picture along the way so
that we would never give up. The benefit of staying out of the comfort zone where a person
tend to set a new goal.

Sometimes it takes a good fall to really know where you stand

I learnt tough situation build strong people. Failure is only the opportunity to begin again,
only this time more wisely. Failure will never overtake a person if his determination to
succeed is strong enough.

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom

We have to know ourselves before making a plan after graduation. If a person willing enough
to sacrifice his time, that person can go for litigation. However, if a person wants to have a
balance life, he can go for in-house counsel.

When it comes to salary, you have to make the right decision

Between a big salary and flexibility of time, you have to choose flexibility in order to be
happy. However, he advised us to practice for the first 3 years and put aside flexibility of
time. This is according to his experience where he said a law graduate usually takes at least
5 years to have an experience.

2.0 Self-Learning Experience : Relation between the information obtained to my

personal awareness of the current job market.
In life, you can always plan everything out but always ready for a backup plan. The
same thing applies to job market especially in the legal field. Not every law students will
actually choose to end up as a lawyer. As for me, I chose this path due to my exposure to
American series such as Suits and Scandal. However, in the future, the moment I decide
being a lawyer is not the right career for me, I cannot waste all those years in law school and
have to find other professions that relate to my law degree. This is because the scope of job
opportunities for law graduates is actually wider than I used to think.

One of the example is journalism where a law graduate can be assigned with court
reporting as they are very familiar with the legal terms and court procedures. Other path that
can be chosen is diplomacy. Since government decisions are bound by law, a law graduate’s
legal knowledge is very essential to understand the whole process especially in interpreting
the documents and statutes. Therefore, at the end of the day, being a lawyer is not the career
that is left for law graduates. There are always other professions that suit with the legal
knowledge acquired.

3.0 Preparedness for The Job Market : Reflect on my readiness to apply for the job.
I believe legal field is not that easy and even with the 4 years I spent studying in law school,
the knowledge acquired is not enough. The talk I attended taught me what we learnt in lecture
is just the theory. The reality of legal field is something you can only understand by
experiencing it. I teaches you time is of the essence and being nice with everyone not only to
judges and other lawyers but also the people who work in court or even a dispatcher. I learnt
from the talk given by one of the speakers that it is better to start practicing with a small firm
in order for me to get the exposure. Therefore, I believe I am well prepared for all the
hardships and bitterness in legal field. I took the advice and applied for a small firm in
Kajang for my internship programme for 10 weeks starting this June.

4.0 Suggestions on Personal Improvement

Basically, there are two (2) ways on how I can further improve myself. On regards to
manners, I have to learn on how to accept a feedback. I have to work on my behaviours when
I’m around other people and how their opinions affect me. I have to control my mood when I
work under pressure. I learn all the factors are shaping a person on how to become a good
lawyer. Therefore, all of this can be achieved by changing myself from time to time in
becoming a good person. Besides, I learnt that one simple mistake will cost everything that I
have. Therefore, in law career, there should be no room for mistake. One way to avoid this is
by learning and making mistakes now while I’m still in the law school so I know how things
should go around when I’m in the legal career.
