BIBLE STUDY FOR WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 5, 2018.

THEME : SUPERNATURAL HARVEST

TOPIC: FELLOWSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
TEXT: JN 16: 5-15
Aim : To enable us, Christians, to learn more about the Holy Spirit - His Deity,
Personality, and workings in our life as Christians, and grow deeper Fellowship
with Him.

INTRODUCTION
The Bible talks about the “grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and the
Fellowship of the Holy Spirit” (2 Cor 13:14). The focus here is the Fellowship with the
Holy Spirit. In order to achieve this Fellowship, we need to know the Holy Spirit more
and more.

The study or doctrine of the Holy Spirit is known as Pneumatology. The Holy Spirit is the
Third Person of the Trinity, The Godhead, that manifests and speaks in several ways
throughout the Holy Bible and in the life of the Church . It is crucial that Christian
believers have deeper knowledge of the personality, deity and operations of the Holy
Spirit. In our text, he is being referred to as the Comforter (or Counsellor) who plays so
many needful roles in the lives of the Christians. Jesus Christ has to explain to His
audience the reasons why they must have to work closely with the Holy Spirit.

STUDY GUIDE/DISCUSSION POINTS

1. From our guide, what are the titles and functions of the Holy Spirit? Cf Jn 15: 26
2. How can we prove that the Holy Spirit is more than just a force?
1 Cor 2: 10-12; 12:11; Rom 2:7; 8: 14, 26, 27, 15:13; Acts 1: 8; 16: 6,7
3. What are the works of the Holy Spirit?
Ps 104:30; Job 33: 4; Jn 14:16, 26; 16: 8-11, 13; 2 Pet 1: 20,21; Acts 1: 2; 10: 38; Matt
4:1; Eph 1:13,14; 4:30;
4. What are the sins against the Holy Spirit?
Matt 12: 31, 32; Hebrew 10: 29; Isa 63: 9,10; Acts 7:51; 5: 1-9; 1 Thes 5: 19,20;
Eph 4: 30; 1 Cor 14: 39

CONCLUSION
Irrespective of the version of the Holy Bible that you are using, it is appropriate to note
that it is both despiteful and misleading to refer to the Holy Spirit as a "force" or an "it"
mainly because He is a personality of the Godhead. Furthermore, it is dangerous to
believe or teach that the dispensation when the Holy Spirit speaks or manifests is past
because such a point of view places an unnecessary limitation on our God who never
changes. We have no option than to readjust our priorities during worship and all our
endeavours to have more time for the Holy Spirit. Always remember the Holy Spirit is
God Himself.
