As we quickly enter the Fall Season I hope all is well with our members and our families.

Club Officers First, I would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of our fellow member Joe Shultz, who
passed away on August 14, especially to his wife Diane. May he rest in peace.

“Person Of the Year” Award Banquet – Wednesday October 17
Betty Najm The Person of the year committee is pleased to announce the selection of, Josephine Nassif and Commissioner
President Thomas J. Saadi, both of Danbury from a list of outstanding nominees, as the honorees for this year’s awards
event that will be held on Wednesday October 17th , a day earlier than previously planned, at the Amber Room in
Victoria Beylouni Danbury. Josephine has been the past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, and a church member of St. Ann. Tom has
Vice President been a board member of the club and St. Anthony’s church. They both have had a lifetime of contributions to the
advancement of the Lebanese and Arabic Speaking Community in Danbury and the greater Danbury Community.

Well, the unofficial end of summer has arrived, and Mother Nature didn’t get the message!! “IT’S STILL TOO DARN HOT
AND HUMID”, even so we hope that you all had an enjoyable Labor Day. We are now into our Fall schedule of events so keep
a sharp eye out for dates, times, places, and most importantly deadlines for reservations and ads. All of the information about
upcoming events for the next month will be included later in this newsletter edition. We are still waiting for some notes or
letters containing some of your travel experiences and happenings this summer. It would be great if we could share in some of
members’ experiences and family news. We also would like to hear from our members any suggestions or comments on the
Newsletter so that we can improve and /or change the focus for the upcoming months. Send any comments or suggestions to
LAC Newsletter, 22 West Street, Danbury, CT 06810, attention Lou Najamy or Ghassan Najm. We’ve been doing this
Newsletter for several years and we really would like some new ideas or suggestions to help keep membership interest.

Congratulations to Tom Saadi for receiving the Leadership Award - at the Annual Dream Award that will be held at the
Amber Room on Sept. 22nd. Due to Family event, he will not be accepting the award in person, V.P. Ghassan Najm will on his
behalf.
Congratulations to Randy and Nancy Michael on the birth of their granddaughter Grace Elizabeth DeMoura. Her parents are
Sergio and Rachel DeMoura. She was born at Greenwich Hospital on July 14, 2017 and she weighed 5 lbs. 12 oz.

I would like to extend our Best Wishes to the 2018 Person(s) of the Year: Josephine Nassif and Tom Saadi. They are two
deserving people!
Thank you for all the prayers for Bob and Lisa; he is doing great! Najla is recovering from her eye surgery! I personally want
to thank Dr. Dacacche for all the care he and his staff at Danbury Eye Physicians & Surgeons P.C. have given her! Randa is
also recovering! Thank you all for your prayers! Please continue to pray for all our members to be safe and well!
Congratulations to Marlene and Mike Caravakis on the birth of their granddaughter and the engagement of their daughter,
Adriana. I would like to welcome our newest members to the club: Patricia Madkour was sworn in at the Sept. 5th meeting and
Marlene Hage joined in June and will be sworn in soon!
Thank you to my co-chair, Lisa for all her help preparing for and during the Family Picnic. It was a beautiful day with great
food, wonderful people and delicious desserts! An immense gratitude to John Ashkar and Eli Khoury for barbequing all the hot
dogs, hamburgers and chicken! Thank you to Ruth Ashkar, Sandy Urban, Theresa Taylor, and Barbara Braguez for helping
husk corn and setting up the dessert and snack tables. Stacey and Toni thanks for all your help with clean-up. Thank you to
everyone that brought desserts and/or snacks! We hope you enjoyed yourselves! Thank you all for attending!
The Lebanon-American club is really happy and excited to be participating in the 2018 fundraising efforts for the St. Jude
Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer happening September 22 in Stamford, CT. September is also Childhood Cancer
Awareness Month. Lisa Antous will be speaking at the next meeting to promote the event. She is the Team Captain for this
great event! I’m inviting you to be a part of this great cause! You can make a donation or run or walk or cheer for the Team!
The Ladies Auxiliary has voted and it will match donations made by its members up to $250. Please check with your employer
to see if they MATCH your donation
Please tell Lisa if you would like to walk or run at the event. If you would like to meet the runners at the Finish line, we will put
up a tent and provide water and snacks. We will be meeting at the club to car pool early morning on Sat. Sept. 22. Captains will
be calling with all the info.
Club Meeting dates are falling on the same days as the Men’s club. Therefore, the Board changed them to: Oct. 23 @ 7 pm, no
meeting in Nov. (too close to Thanksgiving), Dec. 18 (weather permitting) and Sun. Jan. 27 @ 3pm combined club meeting.
The Holiday Luncheon for the Ladies will be at the Black Angus on Sat. Jan 12 from 12-4 pm. Please contact Patricia Najamy,
if you would like to volunteer to bring dessert or soft drinks for the October meeting.

Sept. 22 St. Jude’s Run/Walk; Oct. 7 @ 6 pm – The Southbury Movie Theater will be showing, “The Insult”, a Lebanese
movie with subtitles as a fundraiser for St. Anthony. $15 includes popcorn and drink! Oct. 10 @ 6pm - CPR class for members
only $10 no certification. Oct. 13 St. Ann’s Hafli-George Malouf, singer. The members voted to place a full page ad in this
year’s Program book. Wednesday. Oct. 17 Person of the Year. Sat. Oct. 20 Vendor event @ St. Anthony 10-3pm with 18
vendors. Nov. 2 and 3 St. Ann’s Bazaar. Nov. 10-St. Anthony’s Gala The members unanimously voted to place an ad in the
Program book. There will be no Scholarship buffet fundraiser this Fall since there are so many events planned.
