Environmental Management
Hyundai Motor India Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Company
headquartered in South Korea. It is the second largest automobile manufacturer with
17% market share as of 2017 and 5.5 billion USD turn-over in India. Hyundai Motor
India established (HMIL Company) Hyundai Motor India Foundation [HMIF] a
registered charitable trust in the year 2006 to carry out Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR) activities in a sustainable manner. For HMIL, It’s been a long standing
commitment towards CSR, touching the lives of economically/socially challenged and
also contributing towards Road Safety, Environment, Health, Education, Women
Empowerment, and Art & Culture.
The Company shall operate under Four Move frameworks Viz. Clean Move, Safe
Move, Happy Move and Green Move
Clean Move
The objective of the Clean Move is to create awareness in the society and support for
clean environment in society. Waste Management & Hygiene for better health
standards. To support the community on sanitation facilities & hygienic living
conditions.
Safe Move
The objective of the Safe Move is to create awareness in the society about Road Safety,
Personal Life, etc for a secured community.The project shall be taken up by HMIF or
through other authorized agencies as an ongoing project and/or time bound projects.
Happy Move
The objective of the Happy Move is to contribute to the society through physical
monitoring support & services for improving the living standards of the under
privileged people in the society & also covers infrastructure development in villages.
The project shall be taken up in such a way that the unit undertaken should become
selfsustainable.
Green Move
The objective of the Green Move is to create awareness in this society for improving
greenbelt & reducing carbon footprint by various campaigns. The project activities
should be taken up on a sustainable basis keeping in view Long termbenefits-to-the-
society
It will benefit the overall general public by promoting a pollution free environment
through, related research and training programs, including awareness and campaign
programs, protection of bio-diversity in national parks, reserve forests, sanctuaries, and
the like, through schools, colleges, universities and institutions, governmental and non-
governmental organizations, conduct of conventions, symposiums, guest lecturers and
campaign programs.
To celebrate the World Environment Day 2018, Hyundai has kicked off its green
initiative 'Beating Plastic Pollution.' Hyundai owners can get their cars dry washed, have
PUC and emission levels checked for free at workshops spread across India.
Hyundai announced its initiatives supporting the cause 'Beating Plastic Pollution' on
'World Environment Day 2018' along with free PUC, Emission check and Dry Wash
for Hyundai Cars on 5th June.
In-line with the global theme of 'Beating Plastic Pollution', Hyundai's initiatives will
focus on reducing the usage of plastics at its manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur near
Chennai and across all its 493 Hyundai Dealerships and 1309 Service Workshops.
Hyundai along with its vendor partners will also opt for alternate packaging material
for spare parts and usage of water-borne paints. Alongside, Hyundai Dealer Workshops
will conduct environment friendly activities to engage and create awareness among the
customers & employees for the reduction in use of plastics, usage of LED's that
consume up to 80% less energy and Proper disposal of waste material. Hyundai has
introduced these initiatives to conserve water, control pollution and conserve energy
across its network.
Hyundai Motor India has launched the ‘Save Water’ campaign by promoting dry wash.
The 45-day-long campaign, conducted in association with the Society for Indian
Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), will start from June 5 till July 19 at 1,254 Hyundai
dealer workshops across India. A series of environmentally friendly activities are also
be conducted across all Hyundai dealer workshops to engage and create awareness
among customers. Besides promoting ‘Dry Wash’ for customer cars, Hyundai dealers
will be using environment-friendly water-based automotive paints and also encourage
their customers to plant more trees.
Air Quality: The contractors are advised to facilitate mask for the labours. Water
sprinklers will be used for suppression of dust during construction phase.
Regular monitoring of emissions and control measures will be taken to reduce
the emission levels.
ISO 14001
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has been awarded ‘ISO 14001’ for
sustainable environment management practices. the certification process initiated in
march last year by ‘Tuv Suddeutshland, the certifying agency, covered areas like
awareness training, technology upgradation, recycling, waste management and
fulfilling government regulations. ISO helps us work towards our goal, and we
encourage the development and use of relevant International Standards. In our mission
to promote activities that reduce environmental impact, we have steadily advanced
efforts to obtain ISO14001 certification. All of our domestic production plants and
business sites as well as major overseas plants have received ISO14001 certification.
In addition, our product development processes are also certified and implement
concepts and product specifications to reduce environmental impact from the earliest
product planning stages to the final designs.We conduct internal environmental audits
and independent third-party audits to ensure the EMS is operating as intended, verify
ongoing improvement, and confirm that each organization is in compliance with our
environmental policies and targets. For the internal audits, we engage independent
environmental auditors to conduct objective system audits to verify the EMS
operating status and environmental performance audits to confirm the effectiveness of
the system.The purpose of environmental monitoring is to evaluate the effectiveness
of implementation of Environmental Management Plan (EMP) by periodic
monitoring.
Conclusion
HMIL is a socially responsible and environmentally conscious manufacturer, Hyundai
believes in the philosophy of preserving the environment and its resources for a better
future. Based on the CSR activities, Hyundai regularly engage in environment-friendly
initiatives to create strong awareness among the communities. On World Environment
Day, Organization pledge that “our sensitivity towards the environment and this
campaign is one such”. So I would like to conclude that the activities done by the
organization was adequate.
