Course Overview:
Integrated Math I aims to deepen and extend student understanding of mathematics through a study of
functions and data, linear and exponential functions, sequences, systems of equations, congruence, and
geometric transformations. You will be developing powerful mathematical tools and learning new ways of
thinking about and investigating situations. You will be making connections, discovering relationships,
figuring out what strategies can be used to solve problems, and explaining your thinking. Learning to think
in these ways and communicate about your thinking is useful in mathematical contexts, other subjects in
school, and situations outside the classroom. During first quarter, we will be learning about functions and
relations, and linear relationships.
Essential Questions:
Unit 1: Functions
● How do I identify important quantities in situations?
● How do I represent and understand a situation using graphs?
● What are the ways I can describe a graph mathematically?
Unit 2: Linear Functions
● What is a linear relationship?
● How do I represent a linear relationship with tables, graphs, and equations?
● How do tables, graphs, and equations help me understand a linear relationship?
● What relationships in the real world follow a linear relationship?
Course Standards: CCSS Standards for Mathematical Practice
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
4. Model with mathematics
5. Use appropriate tools strategically
6. Attend to precision
7. Look for and make use of structure
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
Integrated Mathematics I - First Quarter
Quarter Benchmarks:
Power 5 Benchmark
5.A.1 I can explain the steps to solve a simple equation that has one solution, using algebra tiles if needed.
5.A.3 I can explain and show how the y-values of a linear equation change for any change in x-values.
I can list the domain and range of a function, using correct notation, given a table, graph, and equation
5.B.2 with no excluded values.
5.C.1 I can justify why a relation is or is not a function from a table, graph, and real-world situation.
5.E.2 I can create a graph of a function with intercepts, maxima, and minima from given data or a pattern.
5.F.2 I can evaluate expressions using the Order of Operations.
5.F.3 I can simplify algebraic expressions by combining like terms and distributing.
5.F.7 I can evaluate functions using function notation to determine an output in a real world situation.
5.G.4 I can identify the slope and y-intercept of a linear equation.
