B. Establishing a - Very good. Why is it important that we know the composition

- Why is it located in the tip of the food pyramid?
- Very good! As the shape of the pyramid on its way up shrinks
its size, the human consumption of the foods in those food
groups should also shrink.

- Very good, how about the next part, what can you say about it?
- Are you eating a lot of fruits and vegetables?
- Why do you need to eat those? What nutrition can you get from
it?
- Very good! What can you say about the next food group?
- How can you say that carbohydrates is important to your body?
- On the base of the food pyramid is water. Did you know that an
average human consist of 55-60% of water. The role of water
in our body is to lubricate joints, regulate temperature and
nourish the brain and the spinal cord. What do you think will
happen if your body is dehydrated?
- Very good! That is why it is important to drink 8 glasses of
water a day.
C. Presenting - Base on the food pyramid, are you eating the right amount of
examples/instances food? Why or why not?
of the new lesson - In order to stay healthy, you have to eat a variety of nutritious
foods every day.
- What are the guidelines that you need to follow for you to grow
and develop to the fullest and to improve your nutritional status?
Very good! To achieve your full growth potential, proper food
selection and eating are very essential. Thus, you must know
your physical need for food and follow the dietary guidelines
appropriate for your age.
D. Discussing new - As you have observed a while ago, in the tip of the food
concepts and pyramid lies the fats, oils and sweets. Why does it need to be
practicing new skills taken in little amounts?
#1 - Very good, you can prevent chronic diseases, such as
cardiovascular disease, hypertension and cancer if we minimize
the intake of these food.
E. Discussing new - You should watch the food you eat and take note of the
concepts and important nutrition that you need during adolescent. Number 1
practicing new skills is Calcium. Why do you need calcium?
#2 - What are calcium rich foods?
- You can get calcium from dairy products, leafy vegetables and
tofu.
- How can calcium help your body?
- Are you taking the right amount of calcium?
- Very good! Next is iron? What is iron and why is it important
to your body?
- Vitamin C is needed for iron absorption and you can get these
by eating fruits or drinking fruit juices.
- Due to your accelerated growth and development, you need
body building foods. What essential nutrient is also known as
the body building nutrient?
- Very good! Where can you get protein?
- Very good. Throughout your life, your body replaces damaged
or worn-out cells by making new cells-which is the role of
protein. Protein-rich food helps the body repair itself. Do you
understand?
- Next is the Carbohydrates which is also known as the energy-
giving food.
- Do you eat carbohydrates every day?
- Very good! Due to the increase of your physical activities, your
body needs more energy foods. In general, boys need more
energy than girls due to the physical activities most of them
engage in.
- What will happen when you take more carbohydrates than your
body can consume?
- Yes, and the fats in the body may result to being overweight or
obese
