1.02 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Parking Ventilation Fans (Fresh Air): Inline Axial Fan.

A. Provide air distribution equipment and system as indicated on the drawings and specified herein.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Codes and Standards.

1. All fans shall be tested and performance rated in accordance with the current AMCA
standards or approved equivalent.
2. All Fans shall be UL listed or approved Equivalent.

B. Manufacturer's Qualifications

1. Manufacturer shall be presently engaged in the manufacture of material and equipment similar
to that specified herein. In addition, manufacturer must have the necessary experience, technical
qualifications, facilities, and engineering organization to undertake and execute all the required
work.

2. The manufacturer shall be approved.

3. Manufacturer shall have not less than fifteen (15) years experience in manufacturing the system
specified herein, and will have supplied and have in operation at least 15 systems similar in
magnitude to the system proposed for this installation.

4. Manufacturer must be able to demonstrate a sufficient inventory to assure readily


available replacement parts as such items become necessary.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS.

A. GENERAL
1. The Contractor shall supply and install where shown on the Drawings, fans as described
hereinafter and of capacities indicated in the Capacity Schedule on the Drawings.

2. The fan motors and starters shall be in accordance with the Electrical division of these
specifications and shall have built in over load protection with disconnect switch factory
assembled.

3. Test and rate all fans in accordance with the standards of the AMCA. All fans must bear the
AMCA certified rating seal.

4. Make appropriate allowance for the effects on fan performance of all installation
conditions including plenum enclosures and inlet and discharge arrangements so that
actual installed fan performance equals that specified.

5. Balance all fan wheels and all other moving components statically and dynamically.

6. Where coating is specified and it affects the balance of the fan wheel, perform balancing

after the coating has been applied.

7. Drill all fan shafts on the center line to receive a tachometer.

8. Belt driven fans shall be connected to the driving motor by means of an approved V-belt
drive, with adjustable sheaves, unless otherwise designated. V-belt drives shall be
designed for 50% overload capacity and the motors for such drives shall be equipped with
adjustable bases or slide rails.

9. Bearings shall be self-aligning, grease lubricated, ball-bearing type, and shall be complete
with grease fittings, extended for easy access where necessary.

10. Weatherproof hoods should be provided for all motors and drives exposed to weather to the
approval of the Engineer and Owner’s Representative.

11. Backdraft dampers, gravity type, shall be installed on the fan discharge of all fans
discharging directly to the atmosphere except the kitchen hood fan.

12. Fans scheduled for the high temperature exhaust systems (smoke exhaust) shall include an
upblast arrangement on the discharge and insulated heat shield to protect motor and drive,
all designed for high temperature services.

13. Fans are to operate steadily without pulsation at design conditions. Centrifugal fan
characteristic curves must be such that the fan operating point falls below the point of no
flow static pressure, to the right of the point corresponding to that of maximum
mechanical efficiency, and a 15% increase in static pressure over that specified results in
not more than a 15% reduction in cfm and does not affect the stability of fan operation. If
necessary accomplish the foregoing by modifying the width of the wheel and/or by
providing inlet vanes to change the characteristic curve.

14. Smoke exhaust fans shall be rated for 250°C for 2 hr.

15. Performance curves shall be submitted for each fan for approval.

2.02 FAN TYPES

A.Roof Extract Fans Most Probably this type does not apply to anything we have!
Where could we use it?
1. Roof extract units are to be of the vertical discharge type constructed from aluminum alloy,
incorporating bird guards and air operated shutters. The impeller shall be of the Mixed Flow
type having asymmetric blade spacing and to be dynamically balanced after manufacture.
Fan shall be fitted with weather proof non fused disconnect switch under fan cowl with
galvanized steel bird screen.

2. Belt driven units are to have the motor and fan assembly supported on anti-vibration mountings.
The fan shaft is to rotate in a one piece bearing assembly to facilitate quick maintenance and is
to be sealed against dust. Motors shall be suitable for roof mounting and outdoor operation.

3. Direct driven units are to incorporate the facility of complete fan and motor assembly removal
and easy maintenance. Motor shall be suitable for outdoor operation.

B.Parking Exhaust Fans.

GENERAL

Fan shall be of the vane axial type with the following characteristics:

1. Fans selected shall be capable of accommodating static pressure and flow variations of +/-15%
of scheduled values.

2. Each fan shall be belt in AMCA arrangement 9 with propeller secured to the motor shaft.

3. Fans shall be equipped with lifting lugs.

4. After fabrication all carbon steel components shall be cleaned and chemically treated by a
phosphatizing process to insure proper removal of grease, oil, scale, etc. Fan shall then be
coated with a minimum of 2-4 mils of Permatector (Polyester Urethane), electrostatically
applied and baked. Coating must exceed 1,000-hour salt spray under ASTM B117 test method.

5. Fans shall be UL listed as “Power Ventilators for Smoke Control Systems,” 750 F maximum
temperature for a minimum of 4 hours of operation

FAN HOUSING AND OUTLET

1. Fan housing shall be constructed of continuously welded steel and include an integral punched
inlet and outlet flange to prevent air leakage.

2. Fans shall incorporate universal a mounting system to allow for field transitions from horizontal
base mount, horizontal ceiling hung, vertical base mount or vertical ceiling hung configurations.

3. Housing and bearing support shall be constructed of welded structural steel members to
prevent vibration and rigidly support the shaft and bearings.

4. Belts, bearings and drives shall be protected from the airstream by heavy gauge steel belt
tubes bolted bearing covers.

5. Either an OSHA compliant weather hood, or an OSHA compliant belt guard shall be included to
completely cover the motor pulley and belt(s).

FAN WHEEL

1. The fan propeller shall be fabricated steel Airfoil blades shall be continuously welded to heavy
duty hubs to ensure long life.

2. A standard square key or tapered bushing shall lock to propeller to the fan shaft. Hubs shall be
two piece aluminum castings that securely lock the blades in place.

3. Wheels shall be statically and dynamically balanced to balance grade G6.3 per ANSI S2.19.

4. The wheel and fan inlet shall be carefully matched and shall have precise running tolerances
for maximum performance and operating efficiency.

FAN MOTORS AND DRIVE

1. Motors shall meet or exceed EPACT (Energy Policy ACT) efficiencies. Motors to be NEMA T-
frame, Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) with a 1.15 service factor.

2. Drive belts and sheaves shall be sized for 150% of the fan operating brake horsepower, and
shall be readily and easily accessible for service, if required.

3. Fan shaft to be turned and polished steel that is sized so the first critical speed is at least 25%
over the maximum operating speed for each pressure class.

4. Fan shaft bearings shall be Air Handling Quality, bearings shall be heavy-duty grease
lubricated, self-aligning or roller pillow block type.

5. Air Handling Quality bearings to be designed with low swivel torque to allow the outer race of
the bearing to pivot or swivel within the cast pillow block. Bearings shall be 100% tested for
noise and vibration by the manufacturer. Bearings shall be 100% tested to insure the inner race
diameter is within tolerance to prevent vibration.

6. Bearings shall be selected for a basic rating fatigue life (L-10) of 80,000 hours at maximum
operating speed for each pressure class.

7. Bearings shall be fixed to the fan shaft using concentric mounting locking collars, which reduce
vibration, increase service life, and improve serviceability. Bearings that use set screws shall
not be allowed.

SOUND TRAP HOUSING

Each fan shall be equipped with a sound trap housing which shall consist of a perforated steel inner
liner that directs sound waves into sound absorbing material between the inner liner and solid steel
outer shell.

The absorbing material shall be two inches of sound absorbing material sandwiched between the
inner and outer shell.

The absorbing material shall meet the requirements of NFPA 90A and 90B ASTM C 1071 Type I and
TIMA Standard AHC-101.

The liner shall meet all requirements for 25 flame spread or 50 smoke development when tested in
accordance with ASTM-E84, UL-723 and NFPA-255.

Steel bands shall be provided to seal the insulated cavity against pressure loss.

Sound Trap housing shall provide no additional pressure drop when compared to standard vane
axial housings.
What does that mean?
Sound Trap housing shall effectively reduce inlet and outlet sound power levels in each of the eight
octave bands as shown below.

C.Parking Fresh air Fan.

GENERAL

SOUND TRAP HOUSING

Each fan shall be equipped with a sound trap housing which shall consist of a perforated steel inner

D.Stair case Pressurization Fans

GENERAL

Fan shall be of the centrifugal single inlet and single width,back inclined with the following
characteristics

- Fans shall be capable of accommodating static pressure and flow variations of +/-15% of
scheduled values.

- Each fan shall be belt drive in AMCA arrangement 1, 3, 9 or 10 according to drawings.

- Fans are to be equipped with lifting lugs.

- After fabrication all carbon steel components shall be cleaned and chemically treated by a
phosphatizing process to insure proper removal of grease, oil, scale, etc. Fan shall then be
coated with a minimum of 2-4 mils of Polyester Urethane paint, electrostatically applied and
baked. Coating must exceed 1,000-hour salt spray under ASTM B117 test method.

- Staircase pressurization fans shall receive additional factory applied treatment for the
outdoor installation.

FAN HOUSING AND OUTLET

- Fan housing is to be aerodynamically designed with high-efficiency inlet, engineered to


reduce incoming air turbulence.

- The housings on all fans shall be of continuously welded heavy gauge steel. All interior and
exterior surface steel shall be coated with a minimum of 2-4 mils of Polyester Urethane

paint, electrostatically applied and baked. No uncoated metal fan parts will be allowed.

- Housing and bearing support shall be constructed of welded structural steel members to
prevent vibration and rigidly support the shaft and bearings.

- An OSHA compliant belt guard shall be included to completely cover the motor pulley and
belt(s).

FAN WHEEL

- The fan wheel shall be of the non-overloading single width backward inclined centrifugal
type. Wheels shall be statically and dynamically balanced.

- Fan wheel shall be manufactured with continuously welded steel blades and coated with a
minimum of 2-4 mils of Polyester Urethane paint, electrostatically applied and baked.

- The wheel and fan inlet shall be carefully matched and shall have precise running tolerances
for maximum performance and operating efficiency.

FAN MOTORS AND DRIVE.

- Motors to be NEMA T-frame, Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) with a 1.15 service factor.

- Fans shall be suitable for variable speed operation. Each fan shall be provided with a
variable frequency drive to modulate the fan speed to maintain the pressure differential
between the staircase and the adjacent space.

- Drive belts and sheaves shall be sized for 150% of the fan operating brake horsepower, and
shall be readily and easily accessible for service.

- Fan shaft to be turned and polished steel that is sized so the first critical speed is at least
25% over the maximum operating speed for each pressure class.

- Fan shaft bearings shall be heavy-duty grease lubricated, self-aligning or roller pillow block
type.

- Bearings shall be selected for a basic rating fatigue life (L-10) of 80,000 hours at maximum
operating speed.

- Bearings shall be fixed to the fan shaft using concentric mounting locking collars, which

FANS LISTING

- Fans shall be UL listed.

FAN ACCESSORIES

- Fans shall be complete with spring vibration isolators and ducts flexible connections rated at
the same temperature.

- Each fan shall be provided with motorized damper at its inlet duct. The motorized damper
shall be interlocked with the fan so that it shall fully open when the fan operates and shall
close when the fan is switched off.

E. Centrifugal In-Line Fan Return Air Fans?

Fan shall be of the centrifugal in-line type all aluminum construction and shall be complete with:

- Electric motor mounted outside the air stream, when air temperature inside the duct is above
200 oF (93 oC), otherwise inside air stream.

- Metallic fixing frame and supports.

- Dust proof, non-fused disconnect switch under motor casing.


- Belt drive and belt guard or as stated in Capacity Schedule.

- Vibration isolators.

- Aluminum air foil blades impeller with non overloading horse power characteristic.

- Flexible duct connection at each end.

F. Belt Driven Wall Supply Fans (In Generator Rooms)

1. General features:

a. Sidewall mounted.
b. Propeller designed to move air equally in supply modes
c. Maximum continuous operating temperature 130 Fahrenheit (54.4 Celsius)

2. Wheel:

a. Constructed of cast aluminum on tapered airfoil blades and hubs.


b. Statically and dynamically balanced in accordance with AMCA Standard 204-05
c. The propeller and fan inlet will be matched and shall have precise running tolerances for
maximum performance and operating efficiency.

3. Motor:

a. Motor enclosures: Totally enclosed fan cooled.


b. Motors shall be permanently lubricated, heavy duty ball bearing type to match with the
fan load and furnished at the specific voltage and phase.
c. Accessible for maintenance

4. Shafts and Bearings:

a. Fan Shaft shall be ground and polished solid steel with an anti corrosive coating.

b. Bearing shall be cast iron pillow block with grease fittings.

c. Bearings shall be selected for a minimum L10 life in excess of 100,00 hours (equivalent
to L50 average life of 500,000 hours), at maximum cataloged operating speed.

d. Bearing shall be air handling quality and 100% factory tested by bearing manufacturer.

e. Fan Shaft first critical speed is at least 25 percent over maximum operating speed

5. Drive Assembly:

a. Belts, pulleys, and keys oversized for a minimum of 150 percent of driven horsepower
b. Belt: Static free and oil resistant
c. Fully machined cast iron pulleys, keyed and securely attached to the wheel and motor
shafts
d. The motor pulley shall be adjustable for final system balancin

6. Motor Side Guard:

a. Protective guard completely enclose the motor and drive side of the fan.
b. Coated with Permatector, a thermal setting polyester urethane

Each fan shall be interlocked with its Corresponding generator.

G. Kitchen Hood Ecology Exhaust System

The Ecology System shall be supplied complete with Filter Module, Odor Control Module, Fan
Module, and Control Panel.

System mounting to be designed for out door installation on roof.


Each system shall deliver the exhaust flow rate at the External Static Pressure (ESP) shown on
the capacity Schedule. Units shall be ETL Listed.

1. Filter Module

The unit casing shall be fully painted and be a double wall construction reinforced and braced for
maximum rigidity. Inner walls shall be 16-gauge liquid tight welded and construction and outer walls
shall be minimum 20-gauge steel. Filter sections to be insulated with 1.5” (38mm) insulation to the
requirements of UL/ULC. The unit shall be complete with three stages of filtration.

• The first stage filter shall be a 2-inch deep pleated MERV8 performance per ASHRAE 52.2 and
classified to UL900 standard. The filter clean resistance shall not exceed 0.3in.w.g.

• The second stage filter shall be a 15-inch deep Multi- Pocket MERV 14 performance per
ASHRAE 52.2 and classified to UL900 standard. The filter clean resistance shall not exceed
0.95 in wg. and rated for at least 85% efficiency at 0.4 microns.

• The third stage filter shall be constructed from HEPA grade medium, 12-inch deep Mini-Pleat V-
Bank MERV 16 performance per ASHRAE 52.2 and classified to UL900 standard. The filter
clean resistance shall not exceed 0.6 in.w.g.with efficiency of at least 95% at 0.4 microns.

• A UL/ULC Listed fire damper actuated by fusible link (165°F UL / 286°F ULC) shall be located at
the outlet.

• This module to be complete with three pressure switches to monitor the condition of each of the
three stages of filtration, and a fourth pressure switch to detect a lack of air pressure. Hinged
access doors shall be provided to allow easy access to the filters.

2. Odor Control Module

The Odor Control Module shall consist of a housing and a self contained odor reducing system.
The housing shall be fully painted and be constructed of 16 gauge (minimum) steel with all joints
suitably reinforced and braced for rigidity.

The system liquid spray odor reducing system shall produce an atomized spray that permeates
the filtered exhaust air to attack and neutralize airborne odors. The system housing shall be
constructed of heavy steel with locking hinged access door and two security bolts. The system
shall be complete with an adjustable spray nozzle, 5-gallon liquid reservoir.

Timers mounted in the control panel to switch on, off and cycle control to provide for infinite
adjustment.

3. Fan Module

The fan housing shall be fully painted and be constructed from 16 gauge (minimum) steel with
all joints suitably reinforced and braced for rigidity. The fan shall be AMCA rated be a DWDI
(double width, double inlet), Class 2, backward inclined, with airfoil type blades and with non-
overloading characteristics. Fan motor shall be of the spark and explosion proof type.

The complete fan assembly shall be statically and dynamically balanced. The shaft shall be
ground and polished steel.

Bearings shall be pillow block type with lubrication nipples. Drives shall be V belt or grip notch
with capacity 25% greater than motor horsepower. The fan and motor shall be mounted on a
common base which shall be spring vibration isolated from the fan housing.

A fire stat shall be located at the fan inlet to stop the fan on high air temperature. Hinged access
doors shall be provided to allow easy access to fan and motor. Units to be complete with motor
and motor starter complete with electrical overloads and electrical disconnect switch.

4. Control Panel

The control panel shall be constructed from heavy gauge steel, suitable for surface mounting.
Controls shall be complete with touch screen. Display shall indicate system operational status,
condition of all three filter stages, percent (%) filter loaded for each stage, lack of air pressure,
fire condition and odor reducing operation.

5. EcoSystem

ECOsystem shall be standard with all EcoloAir systems and shall consist of 4 pressure
transducers and microprocessor . The 4 Pressure Transducers shall monitor the pressure drop
across each filter as well as pressure in the main duct to provide the status of each filter as a %
loaded as well as notify the operator with an early warning of when the filters need to be
replaced.

On start up, the main pressure transducer shall be calibrated with the Capture Jet Testing and
Balancing Ports to design air flow. The setting shall be stored in the system memory and acts as
the reference point for design exhaust. The Microprocessor shall read the signals from the
pressure transducer and controls the VFD to maintain constant airflow in the system regardless
of the filter conditions. The V.F.D. shall control the RPM of the fan module based on the signal
received from the microprocessor.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.01 MANUFACTURER’S INSTRUCTION

A. Compliance: Comply with manufacturer's product data, including technical bulletins, product catalog
installation instructions

3.02 EXAMINATION

A. Examine areas to receive fans. Notify the Engineer of conditions that would adversely affect
installation or subsequent utilization and maintenance of fans. Do not proceed with installation until
unsatisfactory conditions are corrected

3.03 PREPARATION

A. Ensure fan base, roof openings, ceiling supports, are square, accurately aligned, correctly located,
and in tolerance.

B. Ensure duct is plumb, sized correctly, and to proper elevation. Install duct as specified in Air
Distribution.

3.04 INSTALLATION

A. Install fans system as indicated on the Manufacturer, Installation, Operation and Maintenance
Manual and contract drawings.

B. Install fans in accordance with manufacturer's instructions

3.05 SYSTEM STARTUP

A. Refer to Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manua.

A. Protect installed product and finished surfaces from damage during construction.

B. Protect installed fans to ensure that, except for normal weathering, fans will be without damage or
deterioration at time of substantial completion.
