series terminal, you should also enroll in the supplement course GVF 503E-S1.
SUMMARY: Factory-authorized training presenting the detailed knowledge required for installation of Sea Tel stabilized VSAT
terminals. Animation and 3-D simulator-based interactivity are used extensively to explain concepts and provide realistic skills
practice for the student.
CERTIFICATION: Students who pass this course, the prerequisites, and the SeaTel Hands-On–Skills-Test will receive the GVF
Marine Satcom Professional: SeaTel Specialist Certification.
PREREQUISITES: GVF 520, 561, and 562E. GVF 503E must be completed before commencing GVF 503E-S1.
DURATION: GVF 503E contains over 200 animated & interactive pages, requiring 5-15 hours study. Includes review quizzes and
final test.
REFERENCE MATERIALS INCLUDED: Students may download and keep exclusive SatProf reference materials including ACU menu
map, SeaTel configuration record sheet, a Quick Reference Guide, and a SeaTel ’09 series troubleshooting flow chart.
DELIVERY: Animated & interactive HTML/Flash, self-paced, on-line format. Requires Internet access while studying the course
material. High speed access is preferred but is NOT required. Student's computer must have a current browser and the current
version of the Adobe Flash player (free) installed..
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Understand general SeaTel information and course prerequisites. Know the major components of the
terminal and the role of the Above Deck Equipment and the Below Deck Equipment. Understand antenna axes of motion,
stabilization, PCU stabilization sensors, balance, targeting, searching, and tracking loop components. Understand targeting,
searching, DishScan, tracking performance, external nav/GPS and compass inputs. Be familiar with the 09 terminal block diagram
including ADE and BDE. Understand operation of DAC-2202, Tracking Receiver, Communications Interface, and PCU. Know the Tx
and Rx IF signal flow. Understand the functions of the ACU, Terminal Mounting Strip, Dual Antenna Arbitrator, dual co/cross pol,
LNB and its options, BUC and its options, radome, antenna and its options, dual-antenna option, and understand how hardware
options can be combined as building blocks. Learn which modems are compatible with the 09 series, the necessary connections to
ship’s communication equipment, how power is connected and distributed, what other connections are required including alarms
and blockage inputs, and built-in GPS capability. Learn how to select the ADE position, IFL run location, the BDE position, and how
to obtain vessel operator approvals. Understand all details of ADE, IFL and BDE installation. Understand the details associated with
connecting satellite modems, user equipment, and how to conform to regulatory requirements. Understand terminal power-up
and check out, the operation of DacRemP software, and be able to verify proper GPS, AZ drive, and EL drive operation. Understand
the ACU parameters, how to check balance, how to set up of compass and tracking, how to set up the downlink band and pol
scheme, and how to set up the tracking receiver and search parameters. Discuss blockage, home flag, system setup, Rad Hazard
zones, and system type set up. Understand terminal activation, initial satellite acquisition, auto trim, joining the network, and
lineup testing. Understand the Customer hand-off, cross-pol alignment, functional testing, configuration utilities, and using the
internal HTML page. Understand troubleshooting procedures, faults, corrective actions, maintenance and repair, balancing, and
