PRESERVING INSPECTION

The business process of the Inspection of batch materials at predeifned intervals,

component to determine whether a batch material meets defined quality requirements after
completion of defined interval. In a quality inspection, inspect a batch material, using
inspection specifications that have been predefined in the Quality planning component.

Business Process Details

This Process details, the steps to be performed in the SAP System for creation of Quality
Inspection for the materials, Creation of Inspection Lot, Assign the inspection plan or
specification in inspection Lot, Result recording, Inspection Lot Completion.

1.1 INSPECTION LOT CREATION

Inspection processing begins with the creation of inspection lot, which can be created
automatically in background afetr completion of defined interval. Recurring inspections are
triggered by a report that we can execute manually or that the system can execute
automatically (provided it has been planned as a background job). When recurring inspections
are triggered automatically, the background job executes the report, which in turn selects the
batches and creates the inspection lots according to your processing parameters. Inspection
lot generated is of Origin 09 and controlled through quality management view of the material
master whether the quality of material needs to be tested or not.

1.2 SELECTION OF INSPECTION SPECS

As the inspection lot is created an inspection specification gets assigned to it automatically by

system. There are different criteria considered during inspection specification assignment like
the inspection type, inspection lot origin, and Material-Plant combination.

1.3 SAMPLE DRAWING

Relevant sampling procedures are selected, once the inspection specification is assigned to
the inspection lot the sample size is calculated automatically for the inspection lot.

1.4 RESULTS RECORDING

Recording and processing of results for inspection characteristics are carried out. Each
characteristic is valuated on the basis of specification value or characteristics attribute.
Characteristics need to be closed after valuation, to mark status of lot as closed and no further
result recording is possible afterward. Closing of characteristics can be reversed. The recorded
results data will be used for all documentation and evaluation for Quality Control Purposes.

1.5 DEFECTS RECORDING

Defects found during inspection are recorded. A defect is any property or attribute of a
material, product or process that does not meet the inspection characteristic specifications.
You record the defects with the help of predefined defect codes maintained in the inspection
catalogs. Once a defect record has been created, it is saved in the system as a quality
notification. A quality notification is a system-supported problem message that you can use to
process different types of problems relating to poor-quality goods or services.

1.6 USAGE DECISION

Decision on Accept/ Reject is recorded. With the Usage Decision we decide if the material is
OK/ not OK.
