INTRODUCTION

Nature and Importance of the Study

Avocado, also alligator pear, common name for a tree , native to tropical America, and

for the fruit of this tree. The fruit is a greenish, thick-skinned drupe, similar in size and shape to a

large pear. When ripe, the flesh has the consistency of firm butter and a faint nutlike flavor.

It has a high fat content, containing 10 to 20 percent oil, and is rich in protein. In the

United States avocado is popular as a salad vegetable, and in the tropics it is often used in soup.

The tree is extensively cultivated in the southern United States and California.

(Add more introduction and you may also cite some importance on cuttings).
Objectives of the Study

Generally this study aims to determine the growth performance of avocado as planting

material fr avocado production through cutting.

Specifically it aims to:

1. Determine the possible survival rate of avocado cuttings as planting materials for

avocado production.

2. Evaluate the growth response of avocado cuttings for planting materials.

Scope and Limitation of the study

The study focus of the survival rate and growth response of avocado cuttings for planting

materials.
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
MATERIALS AND METHODS

Time and Place of the Study

The experiment will be conducted at _______________________ from the month of

___________ to __________ 2017.

Experimental Design

The experiment will be laid out using Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three

(3) treatments and three (3) replications at three (3) sample plants per treatment.

The treatments are as follows:

CODE CUTTING

C1 1st cutting (tip / shoot)

C2 2nd cutting ( middle part)

C3 3rd cutting (end part of the branch)

Field Layout
Source of Cuttings

Cuttings of eggplant will be collected from a fruit bearing eggplants.

Collection and Planting of Cuttings

Cuttings will be collected from a selected variety of mother eggplant which are active,

healthy and disease free scions. Cuttings will be collected early in the morning to prevent from

welting and be planted right after collection of cutting. Sharp cutting equipment (knife) will be

used to prevent damage of cuttings.

Care and Maintenance

Newly planted eggplant cuttings will be placed under a partial shady area to prevent from

dehydration. Regular irrigation will be done and watered immediately the newly planted

eggplant cuttings to prevent welting..

Data to be gathered:

1. Days of Recovery. This will be counted from planting to shoot emergence.

2. Survival Rate (%). Survival rate of five sample cuttings per treatment will be computed

upon termination of the study. It will be calculated by dividing the number of eggplant

cuttings that survived over the number of eggplant cuttings used per treatment, that is:

𝑁𝑜. 𝑜𝑓 𝑒𝑔𝑔𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑐𝑢𝑡𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑣𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑑

𝑆𝑅 = 𝑋 100
𝑁𝑜. 𝑜𝑓 𝑒𝑔𝑔𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑐𝑢𝑡𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑑
3. Number of Leaves. Number of leaves of three (3) sample eggplants per treatment will be

counted upon termination of the study.

4. Height of Plant (cm). Height of three (3) sample eggplants per treatment will be counted

upon termination of the study.

Statistical Data Analysis

All data gathered will be organized, tabulated and analyzed statistically using analysis of

variance (ANOVA) in Complete Randomized Design (CRD). Least significant difference (LSD)

will be used to test any significant difference among treatments.
