Philippians 1:19 - 30

1:19 DELIVERANCE. he mentions his imprisonment in 12-14 and focuses on the eternal life

1:20 THE CRUCIAL THING FOR PAUL IS NOT “LIFE” OR DEATH. IT IS MAINTAINING
HIS FAITHFUL WITNESS TO CHRIST.

1:21 Paul’s life is about the advancement of Christ’s kingdom. Thus, To Live means serving
Christ To Die is Gain, because then Paul would be in Christ presence.

1:22-26 paul knows that the way of jesus is the way of service he is convinced that he will
remain and continue with the philippians for their progress and joy in the faith. Paul is not
thinking about his own crisis. He is giving the philippians a model of the service driven life.

1:23 My desire is to depart and be with Christ. When Christians die, they are immediately
with Christ.

1:27-30 paul’s sacrifice will be useless, however, if the philippians do not continue to live in a
way that is “worthy of the Gospel of Christ”.

1:27 be worthy of the gospel paul reminds the congrega that they should look to Christ, not
Caesar, for their model of behavior. They need to stand with one another and with paul in
striving for the gospel

1:28 destruction

1:29-30 both suffering and faith have been granted to you as a gifts of God. Suffering for the
sake of Jesus is a great privilege.

Question
James 1:2-4

- James 1:2-4 about facing trials. From this Bible verse, we can see that we should face trials
with a right attitude.

My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into diver’s temptations; knowing this, that the
trying of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be
perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

– 1 John 2:15

Thoughts on Verse…
From this verse we can see that we should face trials with a right attitude, for
hardship and adversity can make up for our shortfalls and temper our will. And this suffering
and refinement can lead us to success. For example, throughout the ages, the saints and
prophets who were after God’s heart had all suffered hardships before they were fit for
God’s use and received God’s blessings.

Abraham was blessed by God because he chose to sacrifice his beloved only son to
satisfy God.

Moses experienced forty years of hardship in the wilderness and then cast off his hot
blood. After that, he undertook the heavy responsibility of leading the Israelites out of
Egypt.

Although property and children were taken, Job still maintained true faith in God and
feared God and shunned evil, and so he was praised by God and gained His blessings.

As Peter followed the Lord, he experienced tribulations and refinement hundreds of

times, and in the end was nailed upside down on the cross, achieving obedience unto death
and loving God to the utmost.

The Bible records that, “Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried” (Daniel
12:10). It tells us that only through hardship and refinement can we be made complete by God
and have our life disposition changed. The Lord Jesus said, “Whoever will come after me, let
him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Mark 8:34). Hope we can
understand God’s will and take up the cross to follow the Lord.
James 1:2-4
I. Introduction:

II. Body:

(Vv. 2-4) Magalak kapag tayo’y dumaranas ng pagsubok: Count it all joy when we meet
trials of various kinds.
pagsubok. . Sa Life Application Bible ito po ang sinasabi: “Dear brothers and sisters, when
troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” V3 For you know that when
your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

James doesn’t say if trouble comes your way but when it does. He assumes that we will
have troubles and that it is possible to profit from them.

The testing
of our faith produces steadfastness. The point is not to pretend to be happy when we face pain
but to have a positive outlook, “consider it an opportunity for great joy” because of what
troubles can produce in our life. James tells us to turn our hardships into times of
learning. Tough times can teach us perseverance.

We can’t really know the depth of our character until we see how we react under
pressure. It is easy to be kind to others when everything is going well, but can we still be kind
when others are treating us unfairly? God wants to make us mature and complete, not to keep us
from all pain. Instead of complaining about our struggles, we should see them as opportunities
for growth.

maging ganap at walang pagkukulang.

Let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in
nothing.

III. Conclusion:

By “wisdom,” James is talking not only about knowledge but about the ability to make wise
decisions in difficult circumstances. Whenever we need, we can pray to God, and he will
generously supply what we need. Christians don’t have to grope around in the dark, hoping to
stumble upon answers. We can ask for God’s wisdom to guide our choices.

The wisdom that we need has three distinct characteristics:

1. It is practical. The wisdom from God relates to life even during the most trying
times. It is not a wisdom isolated from suffering and trials. This wisdom is the
tool by which trials are overcome. An intelligent person may have profound
ideas, but a wise person puts profound ideas into action. Intelligence will allow
someone to describe several reasons why the car broke down. The wise person
chooses the most likely reason and proceeds to take action.

2. It is divine. God’s wisdom goes beyond common sense. Common sense does not
lead us to choose joy in the middles of trials. This wisdom begins with respect for
God, leads to living by God’s direction, and results in the ability to tell right
from wrong. It is a wisdom that James will describe at length in chapter 3.
3. It is Christlike. Asking for wisdom is ultimately asking to be like Christ. The Bible
identifies Christ as the “wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24). (source is from the
life application commentary)

nanunumbat. He is the God who gives generously to all without reproach and he will give it to
you when you ask (Matthew 7:7). God’s character of giving is generous – sagana, without
reproach – hindi nanunumbat.

Let him ask in faith, with no doubting,
for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
For that
person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man,
unstable in all his ways.

We must believe not only in the existence of God but also in his loving care. This
includes relying on God and expecting that he will hear and answer when we pray. We must put
away our critical attitude when we come to Him. God does not grant every thoughtless or selfish
request. We must have confidence that God will align our desires with His purposes. (Source is
from the life application commentary)

A person with divided loyalty is not completely convinced that God’s way is best. He
treats God’s Word like any human advice and retains the option to disobey. He vacillates
(hesitate) between allegiance to subjective feelings, the world’s ideas, and God’s commands. If
your faith is new, weak, or struggling, remember that you can trust God. Then be loyal by
committing yourself wholeheartedly to God. (Source is from the life application commentary)

You know how restless they are – waves are subject to the
forces of wind, gravity and tide. Divided loyalty leaves a person as unsettled as the restless
waves. If you want to stop being tossed about, rely on God to show you what is best for
you. Ask Him for wisdom, and trust that He will give it to you. Then your decision will be sure
and solid.

James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you
sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Let there be no
accountability of sins in our hands.

III. Conclusion:
