(The history of smoking can be dated to as early as 5000 BC, and has been recorded in many
different cultures across the world. After the European exploration and conquest of the Americas,
the practice of smoking tobacco quickly spread to the rest of the world. In regions like India and
Subsaharan Africa, it merged with existing practices of smoking (mostly of cannabis). In Europe,
it introduced a new type of social activity and a form of drug intake which previously had been
unknown.)
During the first world war and the second world war ciggarretes were given for free to the
soldier in the American army, and that’s the time when they’ve become so popular among the
mases.
Maria is going to tell us why people smoke now a days.
We don't actually now why people start smoking, but we have some clues. in a group of teenagers,
where everyone smokes, even a non smoker tries at least once, out of curiosity to see how it feels
to smoke.
Either it is because of personal problems or because of peer pressure, smoking is attiring because
it is one of the prohibited actions. Teenagers take up smoking from early ages-13 years,
depending on the society they live in. From 1991 the number of smokers has visibly increased
with 20%. The so called advantage of smoking is that you find a common language with others
you don’t know, through a manner of socializing.
At parties, in bars, in coffee-shops, in the backyard of the school, smoking seems to become the
most common habit of nowadays teenagers.
Tobacco smoke contains nicotine and harmane which combined give rise to addictive stimulant
and euphoriant properties. Nicotine also disturbs metabolism and suppresses appetite. This is
because nicotine, like many stimulants, increases blood sugar levels.
Medical research has determined that tobacco smoking causes lung cancer, emphysema, and
cardiovascular disease among other health problems. Tobacco smoking killed 100 million people
worldwide in the 20th century and could kill 1 billion people around the world in the 21st
century.
In some countries, law interdictions oblige smokers to leave km far in order to search for a place
where they can smoke without having to pay contraventions. This is how law restricts the rights
of smokers favoring obviously the non-smokers. While this “discrimination” may seem harsh for
the ones directly affected, it is a necessary measure for the majority. To a healthier life, quit
smoking and become part of the majority!
