42 Days Actual Training

On the job training program has a great vital role in any kind of educational sectors just
like in the field of geology; it is because everything that we’ve learned from our past lessons,
books, theories, techniques, ideas, and for every academics that we had I can definitely say that
in the actual figure it is quite different in which we could impart of what we’ve learned through
our studies. Ranging from 40 to 50 percent (40%-50%) as estimated out of 100 percent (100%)
of the total learning’s that we had on our academic stage is we gain from the field, where we
understand the actual meaning of the course that we are into just like having a fields,
laboratories, practicum’s, sample preparations, core logging, direct plotting, map digitizing,
surface mapping, underground mapping, and etc. Some of those activities were already
undertaken during our fieldworks, but most of the fields that were mentioned above were only
taken during our on the job training, so we are lucky enough to have a knowledge for once we
were just reading and observing on the book.

For every activity that we had rendered we were thought to prioritize the safety first precaution
not just prioritizing safety of our selves but as a team with the help of the “three C’s”
Coordination, Cooperation, and Communication as part of our first training. Second training was
13 – 15 days of surface mapping including the detailed line mapping, and so with the creek
mapping, where we learned a lot especially in doing actual plotting or the direct plotting,
carefully understanding every structures ranging from small to large scale that we might found
along the field. Although we already had this kind of activity during our past field works but this
time is quite different, because we gained a lot of techniques and strategies coming from our
supervisors and mentors who were willingly share their thoughts on how to do such thing that
could help us enhance our skills for future jobs and for future purposes. Third part of our training
was to do underground mapping this time we were so amazed because it was really different
when it comes to understand the real formation and structures if just basing on the book than in
the field, for me I think we need more expand of years to master those structures because it
was really confusing when it comes to deal with true understanding every structures just like the
skills of our mentor and supervisors more specifically those structures found inside the adit, but
for me still it really help a lot because for us we never been experience to do underground
mapping yet we were able to do underground mapping with the help of our supervisor and we
were thankful for that.
Fourth part of our training was we were ask to digitized our geologic map coming from our
fieldworks and collected data using the mapinfo application at this point we were thought also
not just on how to digitize the map, but as well as on how to portray it on a 3D model. Then we
had our sample preparation, where we learned how to carefully prepare those samples and
avoiding for any contamination if possible prior sending it to the laboratory as part of our fifth
training here at the TVIRD company.

Sixth part of our training was we were trained how to carefully log the core samples step by
steps length by length we learned to focus and do the detailed description we might found in
every core samples that we are identifying like in some scenarios if we were the person in
charge or responsible of the core drilling so we can manipulate some cases that we might
encounter similar to what we had undertaken. The next part was we were train how to conduct
IEC or Information Education Campaign, at this point in time we were the one imparting our
knowledge about responsible mining to the locals as part of the experience while we were under
in OJT and also part of our 7th training. Lastly we were given a chance to visit the former mine
site of the company and witnessed the current rehabilitation of the said company showing as
great model among others how responsible they are.

In my conclusion is that OJT symbolizes as the heart of the specific study where you can only
figure your kind of vocation you are into after taking on the job training. My heartfelt gratitude
and sincere thanks to the company (TVIRD) and to the staff composing it COdus!! We are proud
and honored to be part of your facility.
