SAFETY
Do you want to manage Global Logistics Operations?
ROADS

To Analyze during Road and Route

Surveys:

•Tunnels

•Bridge Construction Design Limits, Age and Condition

•Shoulder Strength

•Ground Bearing Pressure Limits

•Construction / Maintenance

•Power, Communication and Signal Lines

•Traffic Congestion
ROADS

To Analyze during Road and Route

Surveys:

•Grade

•Security

•Seasonal Weather Conditions

•Drainage and Culvert System Passovers

•Retaining Walls (GBP / Inverted Cone Effect)

•Erosion and Ground Stabilization Effect

•Surface Conditions
ROADS
Note: Ground Bearing Pressure (GBP)
and Cold Eye Review Team

What to consider:
•Weight distribution of your load
•Areas adjacent to existing embankments
•Underground Utilities (Water, Gas, Fiber Optics, Drainage)
•Areas of unstable Ground
•Areas of weak or compressible soil

BRIDGES
BRIDGES

Look Out Above and Look Out Below !

SURVEYS --What to consider:

• Condition Rating System – Rate from 0 – 9 (9 is in best condition)

• Three Categories to Survey and Inspect

1. Deck

2. Super Structure

3. Sub-Structure
BRIDGES

Mind the Traffic During Survey !

WHAT TO LOOK FOR:

• Placard with Construction Data (year / weight limitations / type)

• Signs of Settlement on the Embankment and Sub-Structure

• Gaps and Cracks, Signs of Stress

• Corrosion, Oxidation and Fragmentations of Cement

• Aspalt Patches used to ramp a difference of road and bridge

BRIDGES

Don’t Pretend to be an Expert !

Do’s and Don’ts:

• Bridge Integrity is not always visible. If in any doubt, Hire a

Professional

• Photograph document everything, different angles; top, bottom and

Approach

What to Look For and Consider

•Availability of Deep Water

•Presence of floating cranes

•Specialized Service Providers •Strategic Location

•Multi-purpose Capabilities •Tidal Fluctuation
•Storage and Laydown •Contingency Planning

•Experienced Labor

Don’t let your lack of Planning become the Project’s Emergency!

SHIPS

Considerations:

•Draft

•Experienced crew

•Availability and Dependability

•Ballast Calculations, third party survey and review

•Contingency plan in case of gear failure

•Ship’s gear lifting capacity

SHIPS

Considerations:

•Stability

•Port rotation

•Charter Party agreement and Roles/

Responsibilities Clearly Agreed

•Ro/Ro vs lift on/off

•Mooring Calculations and availability

lines, buoys, bollards, etc

•Age of the Vessel

CUSTOMS CLEARANCE and REGULATIONS

Considerations:

•Clearance on arrival or Pre-Clearance

•Percentage of full inspections
