Congratulations to two former Gateway volunteers:
Alfreda Richardson graduated Rutgers University while
Deania Stembridge graduated Pillar College. We miss them
both but are thankful for how the Lord is blessing them as they
bless others.

Another family returns to Gateway with their newborn
Decisions guided by
shame and fear
Nelson* came in about 20 minutes after
Sherry*. Very friendly. He’s a graduate of well-
known university, with a degree in biology. We
spoke with him about many aspects of abortion,
breast cancer, infertility, and PAS.
He was aware and ahead of us on many of these
topics, having studied them at the university. He
wishes to be a certified trainer. We encouraged
him to help Sherry to either parent (with him) or
place for adoption. We spoke of fetal
development, early abortion, chemical abortion.
We shared some of the consequences of
abortion - physically, emotionally and
psychologically. He was given a Gideon Gospel
of John and spoke to him about God’s
involvement in his life.
After Sherry came out, she was in tears in her
eyes. Her head was down. She and Nelson* left
but lingered on the staircase. She went out alone
and he sat on the steps in tears. We spoke with
him another 20 minutes and encouraged him to
give Sherry space but encourage her not to

We encouraged him not to focus on a negative outcome. We stressed that his lack of participation in an abortion
would be a great motivation for Sherry to carry to term. (Because Sherry took the MAP, she may lose the child,
although her test was positive). Nelson* worried about sharing this news with his parents.

He was very concerned that they would become a split-up couple and he would be paying child support, like many
in the community. He feared being a statistic and never getting away from his difficult upbringing, regardless of
his intelligence and college training. We told Nelson that that the decision can be on hold for a while. We prayed
for him and he promised to keep in touch via email.

Nelson* called again, stating that Sherry is thinking about an abortion. He’s 50-50 on the idea. He may pay half of
it or none of it. I mentioned that it isn’t her choice, but it is his baby. He is responsible if he doesn’t try to stop the
abortion by speaking to her or by paying a part or all of it. He said he’d think about it for a few days. Within a
week we recalled him. He did go ahead with the chemical abortion. We told him Nelson that we’d be there for him
should he or Sherry wish to talk.
