FRETILIN request the constitution of a Parliamentary Commission to

Investigate the Awards of Construction Projects and Rehabilitation of Roads,
Bridges, Flood Control and Electricity in Timor-Leste

FRETILIN Parliamentary Bench submitted a request for the National Parliament to

constitute a Parliamentary Inquiry Commission to investigate the awards of
infrastructure projects undertaken by the VI Constitutional Government in July
2017, a few days before the Parliamentary elections.

In its request, FRETILIN wants the Inquiry Commission to appreciate and clarify
responsibility of the Government in the adjudication of these projects.

Head of the FRETILIN bench, Representative Aniceto Longuinhos Guterres Lopes

stated that "FRETILIN would like the commission to find out about the allegations
that there were failures and illegalities in the signing of contracts for these
projects, which were undertaken only a few days before the 2017 parliamentary
elections."

FRETILIN wants the parliamentary inquiry commission to investigate if the

contracts respect the procurement proceedings and the acquisition of goods and
services as the law, and whether the entities entered into these contracts with the
State met these legal requirement.

"FRETILIN would also like the parliamentary inquiry commission to investigate the
amount of money the government spent on these contracts and the financial
sources for these projects," Representative Aniceto Guterres concludes.

Apart from the representatives from FRETILIN bench, the request is also signed by
proponents from the Democratic Party, namely Representative Adriano do
Nascimento.
