Bivariate Table
Table 1
Bivariate Hypothesis:
Rap music has become a large part of the American culture. According to the data, 9.8% of the
18-29 ages like rap music compared to the 1.7% of the 30-39 ages. The data shows that the 40+
ages have the highest percentage (55.1%) of dislike of rap music compared to the 18-29 ages
(45.1%). Based on the data, more respondents dislike rap (50.5%) than those who like rap music
(2.9%).
Bivariate Discussion:
Looking over the results of the data we see that there is a greater dislike of rap music amongst
the respondents. This information shows us that regardless of how our personal attitudes are
about rap music that the data shows how the dislike of rap music is greater than the like of it in
all age categories. What is the reasoning behind the dislike, perhaps it’s the high bass content of

the music or the contents of the lyrics. The 40+ age category most likely wouldn’t like rap music

Multivariate Hypothesis:
According to the data presented, there are more black respondents who like rap music than white
respondents. 23.7% of black respondents ages 18-29 like rap music compared to 7.8% of white
respondents ages 18-29 who like rap music. The dislike of rap music category tells us that 46.1%
of white respondents ages 18-29 dislike rap music than the 42.1% of black respondents ages 18-
29. The total dislike of white respondents (51.5%) is higher than the total dislike of black
respondents (44.7%).

Multivariate Discussion:
The data above is interesting depending on the age group and race the like of rap music will
differ in each category. It’s also interesting that dislike for rap also differs in each category. Can
we say that rap music is a part of the black culture more than the white culture or that the 18-29
year old respondents like or dislike rap music more than 30-39 year old respondents? Both races
have a high percent of dislike for rap music than was initially anticipated.
