REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter of paper the review of related literature synthesis of the study and the conceptual
framework

DIFINITION OF RICE

Rice is the most widely consumed food for a large part of the world human population an
d specially in asia (condolezza2005-09)

Rice is the most important grain with regard to human nutrition and caloric intake
providing more than one-fifth of the calories consumed worldwide by humans (Zohary and
Hopf 2000)

Rice is important, because one of the largest human sources of methane, and rice is the
world's second-most produced staple crop," said ( Dr. Kees Jan van Groenigen,2012)

The cereal grass that is widely cultivated in warm climates for its seeds and by-products
— compare (Elmer Leopold 1892–1967)
EFFECT OF HIGHER PRICE OF RICE TO CUNSUMER

Rice agriculture becomes climate friendly as our atmosphere continues to change. This is
important, because rice paddies are one of the largest human sources of methane, and rice is the
world's second-most produced staple crop," ( Dr Kees Jan van Groenpgen,2012)

The common theme in the experiments was that they measured how rising temperatures
and extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere affect rice yields and the amount of methane that is
released by rice ( Guyana, 13-17 September 2010)

HIGHER PRICE OF RICE

"Because global demand for rice will increase further with a growing world population, our
results suggest that without additional measure ( Archer, D. Lettenmaier, 2008)

EFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN FARMERS

Climate change on farms can be determined by factors such as local climatic changes,
farm physical environment, the type of crops grown, and household socio-economic
characteristics that limit or increase adaptability to climate change. ( Peterson R. Shaw, MAY,
2011)
Simulated yield under climate change and socio-economic scenarios were used. The aim
was to produce information that facilitates an understanding of the unequal economic
implications of climate change on farms. (Peter Backlund,JUNE,2013 )
The proportion of farms that are negatively affected by climate change ranged between
51% and 78% in warm regions under different scenarios; in cool regions, the proportion of
negatively affected farms ranged between 10% and 22%. The implications of climate change are
found to vary under various socio-economic scenarios, in which positive socio-economic
scenarios considerably reduced the proportion of negatively affected farms.( Anthony
Janetos,JULY 2016)
Climate change also found to differ among farms within agro-ecology because of
differences in land allocation to various crops that have different sensitivity to climate change,
and due to other farm differences. Thus, the study shows the importance of using farm and site-
specific production and to climate change impact.

LACK OF RICE IN THE PHILLIPINE

How can government lower food prices in the PhilippineS the price of rice has soared to
P42.50 ($.95),* and this amount is fairly difficult for poor families. In the event of a rice crisis,
millions of Filipinos who are very poor will suffer more from malnutrition, poverty, and hunger(
Jerry Hatfield.2017)

Even though their work consists of difficult tasks such as sowing the field and being
exposed to the sun for several hours every day, Filipino farmers still earn below the minimum
wage. Because of low pay and adverse working conditions, people from provinces, instead of
doing farm work, are tempted to go to urban cities to have a better way of life.( Mike G.
Ryan,2012)

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter the research methods to be use targets respondends of the study data gathering
instrument data gathering procedure and the statistical treatment of data

DATA GATHERING PROCE

This work has been reviewed and approved by the division head of the Social
Sciences Division through an internal review process. All participants in this study gave
informed oral consent prior to the survey interview and had the option to terminate the interview
at any point. No minors were directly interviewed during this study. . These measures are done
with the approval of the (Chief Information Officer of the International Rice Research Institute)

The Respondents

Data Collection

Farmgate Prices are prices received by farmers for the sale of their produce at their first point of
sale during their last transaction within the reference period.

Wholesale Selling Prices are prices at which traders or distributors sell their commodities to
other distributors and to retailers.

Retail Selling Prices on the other hand, are the prices at which retailers sell commodities to
consumers.

Information Dissemination

Prices gathered for the week are disseminated weekly through the Weekly Updates of Palay,
Rice and Corn Prices. This summary report contains the prevailing prices of palay/rice and corn
for the week from the reporting provinces including Metro Manila. These prices are also
compared to the previous week’s and the same period of last year’s price levels.
