Sermon Theme:

O Jesus Save Our Sheep !

Jeremiah 23:23-29
23 "Am I only a God nearby," declares the LORD, "and not a

God far away? 24 Can anyone hide in secret places so that I

cannot see him?" declares the LORD. "Do not I fill heaven and
earth?" declares the LORD. 25 "I have heard what the prophets
say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, `I had a dream! I
had a dream!' 26 How long will this continue in the hearts of
these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own
minds? 27 They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my
name, just as their fathers forgot my name through Baal worship. 28 Let the prophet
who has a dream tell his dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully.
For what has straw to do with grain?" declares the LORD. 29 "Is not my word like
fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?
Hebrews 12:1-13
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us

throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run
with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the au-
thor and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross,
scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider
him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary
and lose heart. 4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of
shedding your blood. 5 And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that ad-
dresses you as sons: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not
lose heart when he rebukes you, 6 because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and
he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." 7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is
treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8 If you are not
disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children
and not true sons. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us
and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our
spirits and live! 10 Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but
God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline
seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of
righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. 12 Therefore,
strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 13 "Make level paths for your feet," so
that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.
Luke 15:3-6
3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep

and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go
after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his
shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and
says, `Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.'

CHILDREN’S DEVOTION
Children are invited to come to the front of church for the children’s devotion during
the singing of verse 2 of the second hymn, “Amazing Grace”. Parents are welcome
to accompany their children to the front. Mrs. Bonnie Scholl, our Heart♥Land Pre-
School Teacher, will have the devotion. Afterwards, we’ll continue with verse 3 and
4 of the hymn and the children will return to their parents.

GUEST PREACHER
We are blessed to have Pastor Kurt Grunewald as our guest preacher today. Pas-
tor Grunewald has served on the Calvary Academy Board for over three years. In
his retirement, he is able to share God’s Word and the story of God’s work at Cal-
vary Academy, with us and with all of our Wisconsin Synod Congregations.
(Calvary Academy is a Christ–centered home/school for troubled youth, located in
Florida). (Pastor Duncan is on vacation. Pastor Scharrer is attending his son’s,
Alan’s installation at Garden Home Lutheran Church as a third grade teacher. Your
pastors wish you God’s blessings and look forward to seeing you next week.)

SPECIAL MUSIC TODAY

Out of gratitude to God who has enabled Lloyd and Barbara Behl to observe their
61st Wedding Anniversary and of Lloyd Behl’s 82nd birthday today, one of their 10
children and two of their 46 grandchildren, will be singing and playing at both ser-
vices this Sunday. Our guests will be blessing us with three solos and also with the
music for pre-service, offertory, and postlude in our services on Sunday. We thank
them for this demonstration of love for the Lord as well as for parents and grandpar-
ents.

DOOR OFFERING
As a thank you for our guest speaker and as a gift to Calvary Academy, a door of-
fering will be gathered after our services. If you prefer using your offering enve-
lopes, the yellow envelopes are available in your envelope packets. Please mark
your donation for Calvary Academy. Thank you for your love for the Lord.

PASTOR GRUNEWALD
Before retiring, Pastor Grunewald served in the preaching ministry for 37 years. He
served the Lord in Akron, Ohio, Fond du Lac, Wis. and finally in Elkhorn. He served
as Bob Wasser’s pastor in Elkhorn. Bob Wasser was one of the founding fathers of
Calvary Academy and continues to serve as the chief financial officer. He invited his
pastor, Pastor Grunewald to serve on the Board.

CALVARY ACADEMY
This home/school operates year round providing 24 hour/7
days a week residential care for troubled youth. Formerly it
was located in South Milwaukee (at the same congregation
where Christine Olson grew up. Chrissy Olson is now serv-
ing us and our Lord in the Escape Teen Center). To better
serve troubled youth, Calvary was moved to Mulberry, Florida. With a system of lov-
ing discipline and God’s Word, troubled children/youth have an opportunity to have a
new beginning in their lives and to return to the Lord who dearly loves them all.

ST. PAUL’S “CALVARY ACADEMY CONNECTION”

Many members of St. Paul’s will remember Peter and Cindi Sampe. The Sampes,
now living in Texas, invited your pastor, Pastor Scharrer to serve with them and help
begin Calvary Academy. St. Paul’s was one of seven “founding congregations” of
Calvary Academy. We have Calvary Academy, listed on our yellow “charities enve-
lope” in our envelope packets if our people have a heart for this awesome ministry.
In Calvary’s early days, many of our people helped this ministry get started by pre-
paring mailings of 20,000+ newsletters. In helping begin this ministry, what a privi-
lege is ours to know we have been instrumental in helping well over 100 families
with youth “in crisis.”

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK AT CHURCH - Today @ 9-10:30 a.m.

You may have your blood pressure checked after the first service next
Sunday morning. Amy Krause and Ruth Schwalenberg, two registered nurses, are
providing this service to our people.

PASTOR RECEIVES CALL TO LIVE IN INDIA

Pastor Mike received a call to serve as
the future Field Coordinator for India. The current
Field Coordinator, Mark Krueger, plans to retire in
the next couple of years. The Coordinator over-
sees the mission work our Synod does in India.
He works with two other missionaries and the na-
tional pastors of CELM (Christ Evangelical Lutheran
Ministry), our national church in India which has
9,500 souls in 126 congregations and 60 preaching stations. The Field Coordina-
tor is the Principal of the Seminary and Pre-Seminary in India where 93 men
are studying to be pastors. The wife of the Coordinator serves as the overseer
for the orphanages in India. He is being asked to “shadow” the current Field
Coordinator, Mark Krueger, until his retirement. Pastor Mike and Cathy ask for
your prayers as he deliberates this call.

Rummage Sale, and we are looking for items that we
can sell! If you have old furniture, clothing, computers

olson@escapeteencenter.org or 414-333-7809 if you
have items to donate. You may also donate items by
dropping them off during our regular hours. That day, we will also be having a car
wash. Kohl's employees will be on hand to assist us and if 5 Kohl's volunteers as-
sist, we will receive an additional $500. Thanks in advance for your support.

Christine Olson at 414-333-7809 or Christine.

budgets and financial data and steering the financial direction of the Escape. Inter-
ested people should contact Christine Olson, as this committee's next meeting is not
scheduled until November.

DEDICATION & OPEN HOUSE

FOR CHILDREN'S CENTER - Sunday, September 19th
The first time we use our Children's Center will be Sunday, September 19th. On that
day we will dedicate the Center and have an Open House. We are working on
decorating the Children's Center with a Noah's Ark theme. We are thankful that God
is providing a place in our church facility for ministry to children. We have
always been blessed with the Lutheran Elementary School, but we have never had
a place for children in the church facility. "Let the little children come to me and do
not hinder them for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Luke 18:16).

SPONSOR ANOTHER MARATHON, FOR THE ESCAPE?

With the Lord blessing his efforts again this year, Pastor
Scharrer has registered to run in the Fox Cities Marathon
once again, on September 19th. God’s people generously
sponsored this event last year with gifts totaling over $1940.
These gifts were divided 50/50 for an Escape PA and Pro-
jector system and for the Escape Foundation.
If you’d like to sponsor Pastor Scharrer in this 26.2 mile
race once again, all proceeds will go to the Escape, 50/50
for Remodeling/ Expansion of the Escape and for the Es-
cape Foundation. In the past, quite a number have really
encouraged Pastor Scharrer by pledging $1 per mile and $2
per mile if he finishes. (You don’t know how so very en-
couraging that is! J). But, whatever the amount may be,
that will be wonderful.
Your prayers are greatly appreciated too! Two years ago,
on the day of this marathon, Sept. 21, 2008, Pastor Bitter (who served here at St.
Paul’s 1965-1992), completed his “marathon of life.” Through faith in Jesus, he en-
tered the “race of heaven” which never ends. Thus, Pastor Scharrer is running this
marathon, Sept. 19th, in Pastor Bitter’s memory once again.

your choice? Many Thrivent members received a letter recently explaining how they
may designate "choice dollars" to the organization they prefer. You may use this
"free money" for St. Paul's Church, St. Paul's School, the Escape Teen Center,
Lakeside Lutheran High School, Luther Preparatory School in Watertown and other
fine institutions. Simply follow these three steps: (1) Visit Thrivent.com/
choicedollars to begin. Or call 1-800-847-4836 and say, "Thrivent Choice." (2) Re-
view and select the organizations you want to request funding for by directing
Choice Dollars in 2010. (3) Choose where you'd like to direct your designated
amount of Choice Dollars. SIMPLE AS THAT !
