Later this month we will gather at

Niagara Alliance Church in Thoughts from Dan
Wheatfield for District and Prayer
Conference. Much planning and preparation has gone into this three day
event by all of us in the District Office, by the pastor and congregation at VOLUME 9 I SSUE 4
Niagara Alliance and by many of you who bear responsibility for some
aspect of Conference. I hope by now you have sent in your registration and
APRIL 2 01 0
made arrangements for travel and accommodations.

Inside this issue:

“Open Doors,” the theme for our Conference conjures up many thoughts
worthy of our prayerful consideration before, during and after our time Church Health/Multiplication 2
together. The Bible has many references to open doors, so it’s a good topic Northeastern District Staff
for us to zero in on, not only in our evening services but also in our
Committee meetings and business sessions. We will be careful to keep this District Items of Interest 3
theme before us visually and verbally throughout the week.

District Directory Updates
Sometime in the 90’s “District and Prayer Conference” became the Parsonage to Parsonage
official title of our Annual District Meeting. I’m very thankful that the
emphasis on prayer was included. It would be too easy for us to come District/Prayer Conference 5
together, hear reports, make and debate recommendations, hold elections, Pulpit Supply
gather for meals, etc. and never think much about praying. Maintaining
“Prayer” in the title reminds us that this is the primary work of our gathering
Christian Writers Gathering 6
and compels us to pray throughout our time together.

We will live this priority in several ways. There will be a prayer time each
morning at 8:30 – please be there! Each business session will begin with
prayer and will be peppered with prayer as reports are heard and
considered. Prayer and fasting at noon on Tuesday together with prayer
walking opportunities will further focus our dependence on the Lord for His
power to work among us.

I am excited to see all of you in Wheatfield, to fellowship and hear about

your lives and ministries. But above all, I look forward to praying with you.

Keep looking up,

Parsonage to Parsonage
The passion of Christians who loved
God a generation or two ago challenges me. A.B. Simpson, A.W. Tozer, R.A. Torrey, Hannah Whitall Smith,
Amy Carmichael, and Elizabeth Prentiss are a few of my favorites. They had a commitment and depth that I
lack and I want.
I’ve heard the old-time Camp stories of the Holy Spirit moving and people placing their jewelry,
wedding, and engagement rings in the offering plate. Where did those days go? Why are my rings still on
my fingers? Does the Holy Spirit speak to hearts today as He did 100 years ago? Absolutely!
Soon jewelry will be missing from the hands of Mary Jo Kowalewski and Lesley Paparone who
attend New Life Fellowship in Saratoga Springs. They traveled to Bosnia; saw the empty eyes, the hopeless
faces, and the need to tell the lost sheep in Sarajevo that there is a Shepherd. Selling their engagement
rings and giving the money to fund a Community Center in Sarajevo was their response. They talk of having
their husband’s names engraved on their wedding ring fingers. Hallelujah! God is at work in my generation.
You can read about it at http://jewelsforbih.blogspot.com.
Hearing this story brought Amy Carmichael to my mind. She wrote, “God never wore a chain of gold.
He wore a crown of thorns. His hands and feet were not jeweled, but pierced.” Yes, God’s hands are
pierced not just with nails, but with a tattoo. He said, “I will not forget you! See I have engraved you on the
palms of my hands;” Isaiah 49:16.
I pray that Lesley and Mary Jo will gaze at their tattooed fingers and be blessed by the One Who has
them engraved in the palms of His Hands.
As Christ followers, we need to be alert to the Holy Spirit’s leading as He uses us to complete the
Great Commission. God may not ask us to give up our prized possessions even though He gave up His.
Jesus has not yet directed me to sell my engagement ring, but He does desire I be sold out for Him. This
Easter I ask myself, Do I love Jesus? Do I truly love Him? Would I give to Him anything He asks of me? Is
His Name engraved in my heart?
Feed His sheep and be blessed by His love for you, Elaine
