PRODUCTION OF TOMATO:

The major Tomato producing States in the country are Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh,
Karnataka, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Uttar
Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. These States are account for 91% of the total production of
the country. The production of Tomato during the year 2017-18 (Second Advance Estimate) is
estimated to be about 6.6% higher as compared to the previous year. However as compared to past
5 years average production, it is 18.9% higher. (Table-1.2).

The details regarding seasonality and harvesting period of Tomato crop in the country are given in
Table-1.1

The seed sowing of Kharif Tomato started in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and will be
completed by mid of June, 2018.
The seed sowing of Kharif Tomato in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat
will be started in June, 2018.

The average weekly, monthly and yearly wholesale and retail prices of tomato in different markets and their variation percentage are given in Table-
3.1. The average wholesale monthly prices of Delhi and All India along with graphic presentation are given in Table-3.2 and Table-3.3 respectively.
