Course Overview

This 8th grade science course will cover the key science concepts as outlined in the Missouri
Academic Standards for Science. The course is separated into two major topics. These
topics are Life Science, and Earth/Space Science. The main goal of this course is to develop
an understanding of modern science and technology through experimentation and inquiry.
Students will participate in labs and projects that will develop the following skills: writing,
math, inquiry, time management, cooperation, and presentation skills.

Grading Process

Grades will be calculated on a points system. Each test will be approximately 100
points. Quizzes, daily assignments, homework assignments, lab reports, notebook grades,
and required projects will be at the discretion of the teacher and points will vary.

Guidelines for Success


 Be Responsible
 Take care of personal business during the passing period
 Follow the student Code of Conduct, and always act with academic honesty*

 Arrive on time and bring your supplies to class every day*
 Keep food out of sight/no sharing
 Electronics should be stowed and in the off position during class*

~If you are asked a question in conversation, you should ask a question in return
~Answer all questions in a complete sentence
 Be prepared for classroom instruction by having the proper supplies: Composition
Notebook, Folder, and pencils/pens (blue/black ink)
 No profanity, teasing, or hitting.
 No food, candy, or drinks are allowed in the classroom. Unless I administer them.
 Always respect yourself first, classmates, Mrs. Frazier, other teachers and peers at
Jennings Junior High.
 No one is allowed to leave their chair to throw away trash or sharpen pencils.
 (Before or after class only, unless you raise your hand for permission)
 No one is allowed to leave the room unless it is an ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY.

Late Work Policy

 All work must be submitted on time. If your work is late you will receive a zero for
that assignment. No exceptions. The due dates for assignments are listed on the course
syllabus.

Makeup Work Policy

 Students are responsible for all information given in class.


 If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get any missed assignments, Do Now
activities, class notes, etc. Makeup work is available in class, but time before school
may be needed to complete makeup work.
 You will be given the allotted days per school policy to make up any missing work.
 If you miss a test or quiz an appointment must be made to take it.
 Appointments can be made before school from 7:00-7:45a.m.
