Updates and Happenings
Our Special Fundraiser celebrating 25 years
and the achievements of an organisation such
as CJSA is so exciting. We are fortunate that a
number of founding members are still involved
and active within the Association and their
enthusiasm is catchy. Our 25th Anniversary
evening on the 27th October will honour those
who had the foresight to start CJSA . The
evening will take the form of a light supper with
decadent desserts prepared by Merle Rubin.
Entertainment will add to the fun and enjoyment
and we urge all supporters of CJSA to book
tickets for this special occasion.
Our Seminar will be hosted on the 28th October
at the Sea Point Civic Centre. The theme
Celebrate Ageing promises to be uplifting and
entertaining while giving delegates food for
thought. The speakers are of the highest calibre
with the keynote address being given by Dr Helgo
Shomer, registered psychologist, practitioner
and life coach who is a regular on Cape Talk 567.
There will be panel discussions and breakaway
groups together with mouthwatering eats at tea
time and a delicious lunch served by Naomi
Schroder.
Sundays@6 continues to be enjoyed by those
who attend. At our recent evening in Sea Point,
Karen Boruchowitz eloquently described the
abject conditions that befell her mother- in-
law and many others who fled Eastern Europe
and ended up being incarcerated in prison in
Mauritius. The DVD, In the Shadow of Beau
Possun highlighted their plight. After a Q & A
session, guests mingled and enjoyed a light
supper. Evenings such as these will be hosted
every month, so if you wish to be part of this
group, please contact the office for details.

New Beginings
The CJSA Professional team is on the move!
Hajiera Safidien Maloon will now be the
community worker resident in Milnerton. She will
be running the extensive programme, continuing
to promote our outreach in the community as well
researching and expanding CJSA further into the
West Coast as the need arises.
Samantha Reinders will be the resident Social
Worker in Claremont, continuing the programme
that has been run so well. Her brief is to look at the
possibility of expanding south into Fish Hoek as well
as looking at moving into the outlying areas of the
Cape Town Metropole where we hope to be able to
offer our services.
In Sea Point we welcome Social Worker Monique
Montanus to the CJSA family. She is looking forward
to a completely different type of social work as her
experience has been communities in need.

She is excited to be joining the team and I am sure
that she will be welcomed by all.
The next couple of months are going to be hectic
for the committee members and staff at CJSA. We
are planning to enjoy our celebrations and hope
that everyone in the community will join us at some
stage or another with our various simchas. For the
younger members of the community – now is the time
to enjoy the wisdom and fellowship of our members
and for the more senior members of the community;
you have earned the right to be pampered and enjoy
what we have to offer.

THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIFE:
Living on Earth is expensive, but it does
include a free trip around the sun every
year.
How long a minute is depends on what side
of the bathroom door you’re on.
Birthdays are good for you; the more you
have, the longer you live. Happiness comes
through doors you didn’t even know you left
open.
Ever notice that the people who are late are
often much jollier than the people who have
to wait for them?
Most of us go to our grave with our music
still inside of us.
If Pick n Pay is lowering prices every day,
how come nothing is free yet?
You may be only one person in the world,
but you may also be the world to one
person.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only
make once. Don’t cry because it’s over;
smile because it happened.
We could learn a lot from crayons : some
are sharp, some are pretty, some are
dull, some have weird names, and all are
different colours....but they all exist very
nicely in the same box.
A truly happy person is one who can enjoy
the scenery on a detour.
