FOREWORD

The Brazilian Institute for Information on Science


and Technology (IBICT) published in 1983 "Tesauros, biblio
grafia 1970/1982 - Thesauri, bibliography 1970/1982". The
dissemination of the documentary languages and studies about
the theme was an effort to contribute to the information
specialists in order to improve the methodology of informa­
tion processing.
Awareness of seeing the continuation of this bi­
bliography the IBICT planned the updating of this one.
This volume includes 295 bibliographic references,
covering the period of 1983/1984.

A Bibliografia apresenta quatro índices: de autor individual, autor corporat^
vo, título de tesauro e de assunto. 0 índice de título foi incluído porque al­
guns dos mais conhecidos tesauros, principalmente os de instituições internacio
nais, sao identificados pelos seus títulos.
Os descritores do índice de assunto sao baseados nos títulos e nos resumos dos
documentos. Por se tratar de uma bibliografia de tesauros, a palavra "tesauro"
nao aparece como descritor, exceto quando composto como, por exemplo, tesauro
multilingue.
As entradas das referencias bibliográficas dos tesauros politemáticos e espe
cializados sao dadas pelo compilador ou pela instituição responsável.
Quando um tesauro tem mais de uma edição e referenciada a última sendo as mais
antigas incluídas em notas especiais. As traduções de um mesmo tesauro possuem
referências específicas.
A referencia de número 169 foi categorizada em Ciências da Terra e do Espaço.
No entanto, sua classificação correta seria em Tecnologia, pois trata de navega
çao e indústria naval.

When a document deals with more than one aspect, the main focus will be deter
mined by the category in which it was classified. The other aspects will be re­
trieved by the subject index.
The Bibliography has four indexes: individual author, corporate author, the^
saurus titles and subject. The title index is included for some of the most
known thesaurus are identified by their titles, especially those from interna­
tional institutions.
The subject index descriptors are established based on the titles and ab_
stracts taken from the documents. Since this a thesaurus biliography, the word
"thesauru^1does not appear as a descriptor except when this descriptor appears
as a compound, i.e., multilingual thesauri.
Polythematics and specialized thesauri bibliographic references entries are
carried out by the compiler or by the authorized institution.
When the thesaurus has more than one edition, the latest one is taken for ref
erence and the others are included as special notes. Translations of the some
thesaurus have specific references.
The bibliographic reference 169 was classified in Space and Earth Sciences. How
ever, its correct classification would be under the heading of Technology for
dealing with shipping and shipping industry.
