I. OBJECTIVES

The learners will be able to answer the following:

a. Define conditional sentence and identify its different type;


b. Formulate correct conditional statements.

A. Content Standards

The learner demonstrates understanding of: African literature as a means of exploring forces that
human beings contend with; various reading styles vis – à-vis purposes of reading; prosodic
features that serve as carriers of meaning; ways by which information may be organized, related,
and delivered orally; and parallel structures and cohesive devices in presenting information.

B. Performance Standards

The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering an informative speech based on a
specific topic of interest keeping in mind the proper and effective use of parallel structures and
cohesive devices and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior.

C. Learning Competencies/Objectives

The learners use the appropriate structures in conditional statements. (EN8G-Ia-7)

D. CONTENT
Content is what the lesson is all about. It pertains to the subject matter that the teacher aims to
teach. In the CG, the content can be tackled on a week or two.

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson


The learners will be given an activity called sentence completion in which they are given fifteen
second conditional sentence starters to complete with their own ideas and will read out the part
they have written.
B. Establishing a purpose of the lesson

The teacher will present the objectives of the lesson.

C. Presenting example/instances of the new lesson

Teacher will present a picture of the Philippine President then ask the students to finish the
sentence with: If I am a President…
Discuss the If – Clause/Conditional Sentence
Conditional Sentence is a sentence that expresses a condition. A condition is something that can
only happen “If” something else occurs.
Conditional Sentence contains an independent clause and dependent clause that almost
always begins with “if”.
Example: If I save enough, I can go on vacation.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1

Discuss the three types or form of conditional sentence.


Type I Condition possible to fulfill
Form Simple Present + Will future or (Modal + infinitive)
Example: I will pass the exam if I study.
If I study, I will pass the exam.
Type II Condition in theory possible to fulfill
Form Simple Past + would + infinitive
Example: I would pass the exam if I studied.
If I studied, I would pass the exam.
Type III Condition not possible to fulfill (too late)
Form Past Perfect would + have + past participle
Example: I would have passed the exam if I studied.
If I studied, I would have passed the exam.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Guided Learning/Differentiated Instruction


The learners will be grouped into four for their activity.
Group 1. Finding Half
Learners will be given two different sets of cards. There will be two different colors. One
color for If-Clause, one color for the result clause in which they will match the correct if clause
and its result.
Group 2. The Other Half
Learners in this group will be tasked to finish the “If-Clause” with their own result.
Group 3. If Finder
Learners will be given a copy of lyrics from a famous song titled “If I were boy” and
“Count on me” then, they are going to pick out or select the conditional sentence that can be
found in the lyrics.
Group 4. The Identified
Learners will be given sentences to analyze and identify the type of conditional sentence
being used.

F. Developing mastery (Lead to formative assessment)

Learners will be asked to answer this question “If you were the son in the story of the aged
mother, would you also save your mother? Why? Or “If you were Rizal, would you have chosen to
live rather than die? Why?

3. If I were you, I would buy it as soon as possible.
4. I would have done things differently if I had been the manager.
5. I would be surprised if it rained.
