1.0 Purpose
To create the selection and qualification standards for third party calibration services.

2.0 Scope
The vendors being considered to perform calibration services on Test and Measurement Equipment
employed at [Company Name] facilities must be qualified to the criteria outlined in this procedure.

3.0 Definition Of Terms

3.1 National Institute for Standards and Technology (N.I.S.T.)

A Nationally recognized institution of standards for equipment calibration purposes.

3.2 Calibration
The process of comparing Test and Measuring Equipment to a N.I.S.T. standard to ascertain
deviation, if any, and make appropriate adjustments.

3.3 Test and Measuring Equipment (T&ME)

Any equipment used to determine and/or demonstrate product and/or process conformance to
specified requirements.

5.0 Responsibilities and Requirements

5.1 Quality Assurance Manager

The Quality Assurance Manager coordinates the Calibration Service Qualification Program
discussed in this procedure.

5.2 Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer manages the Calibration Service Qualification Program.

6.0 Procedure

6.1 Selection Process

The Quality and Purchasing managers can decide whether or not, all new suppliers of calibration
services of Test and Measurement Equipment will be surveyed per the Supplier Quality
Requirements and Survey.
The Quality Assurance Manager may choose to waive the survey, if the supplier is certified to a
recognized standards accreditation agency and/or record of service with [Company Name].
However, all suppliers must provide service traceable to N.I.S.T.
The Quality Assurance Manager together with the Purchasing Department should determine the
supplier that will qualify and be utilized to provide calibration services for T&ME used at
[Company Name] facilities per the requirement criteria outlined in this procedure.
The selection method will be based on the following factors:
 Their ability to execute services in a timely manner that [Company Name] requires.
 Their ability to deliver such services in a cost conscience manner.
 A review of their quality system to ascertain and establish designated capabilities
 All delivered services must be traceable to N.I.S.T.

6.2 Qualification Process

The requestor must detail particular needs and/or specific requirements of suppliers that execute
T&ME calibration and Purchasing is to be informed.
The supplier must be able to deliver and execute on site calibration services of T&ME at
[Company Name] facilities.
A calibration certificate is required in all cases where calibrations are performed by outside
sources. Certificates will include the following minimum information:

 Identification of the T&ME and/or measurement standard to which the certification pertains.
 Name of the vendor who performed the calibration.
 Calibration date and next due date.
 Verifiable means of traceability to the National Institute for Standards and Technology
(N.I.S.T.) or a nationally recognized standards organization.
 Calibration approval authority.
 Adjustments, corrections and discrepancies resulting from the calibration.
