IMPORTANCE OF HYDRAULIC ENERGY IN COLOMBIA
The electricity sector in Colombia is prioritizing the hydroelectric power, not only by the higher of the
being the contribution of electric energy in the country, if not the most economic and least impact has. Also,
hydraulic power is important because it has the quality of being renewable, because it does not exhaust the
primary source when it is exploited and produces no contaminants and generates many jobs.
Hydropower is a significant source of employment generation. Leaving behind environmental damage,
hydraulic power generates more than 2000 job vacancies are handled in hydroelectric plants. Also, many
homes benefit from a nearby hydraulic plant, such as the low price of energy, because if the plant is nearby,
there is no great thing for the distribution of such energy, therefore the price decrease. On the other hand,
having a hydraulic plant near a village generates a lot of commerce and a rise in prices in the banking sector.
Therefore, being the largest generator of hydropower generates greater autonomy and greater economy
Hydraulic power does not produce polluting gases. Because, does not produce carbon dioxide emissions
and less environmental damage. And in turn is the one that less damages the natural resources that our
beloved Colombia has. In addition, generating electricity through the hydraulics does not produce a
greenhouse effect, as a consequence of the fact that there are no increases in temperatures that could lead
to other energy production. So the hydropower is a very big advantage that has Colombia so it has abundant
water resources and does not damage our home.
Hydraulic power is renewable, because the source is not exhausted. Consequently, Colombia has
abundant water resources that it uses very well. Likewise, the maintenance and operating costs associated
with these types of plants are lower compared to those of the plants. For that reason, they are more
sustainable. Hydraulic power does not work with high voltage; therefore, it does not endanger the personnel
in charge. And in the not too distant future renewable energies will replace the conventional ones because
these besides damaging to the environment its resource is exhausted.
The electricity sector in Colombia is prioritizing the hydroelectric power, not only by the higher of the
being the contribution of electric energy in the country, if not the most economic and least impact has.
Hydraulic energy is renewable, because the source is inexhaustible. The hydropower after having little
environmental impact, also helps the society of economic stagnation.
The electricity sector in Colombia is prioritizing hydroelectric power, although we only have 12
hydroelectric plants according to the internet, but did not mention the one in my city that is hydrosogamoso
and hydroituango.
But before we talk about hydroelectric, let's see how it works?
-The Dam is built to retain the water. More electricity is produced if the water is more in the reservoir
-Sluice Gates: These can open and close to regulate the amount of water that is released into the pipes.
-Potential energy in the retained water is transferred into kinetic energy by water flowing through the pipes
with high speed.
-The force and high pressure in the water turns a series of shafts in a generator. Spinning shafts in the
generator charges millions of coils and magnets to create electricity, which is regulated by a transformer.
This is then transported via cables to homes and factories.
Why Colombia is primordial hydroelectric power?
First, it generates work and a reduction of energy service to nearby cities.
Second, because this method of obtaining energy does not burn any fossil fiul, it does not generate
polluting gases, therefore it does not help to produce in the greenhouse effect.
Third, water is a natural and renewable resource that is never exhausted. In other energy production is
working with high voltage, hydroelectric not and so it is very safe for the personnel who handles it.
Conclusion, Colombia has many water resources, but I think that is not taking advantage of that
advantage, because we produce very little energy through hydroelectric.
