Dear FNSA School Presidents and Chapter Consultants,

The Executive Board and I have been busy planning your Pre-Convention
Workshop. Pre-Convention prepares students to serve as delegates, informs them
about scholarships, fundraising, writing resolutions and all other aspects of the
organization and the annual convention. Each board member will present a brief
summary of what is involved with the aspect of the FNSA that they oversee. Pre-
Convention is also a time for sharing of accomplishments amongst the chapters and the
regions.
I have enclosed a tentative schedule, registration form, criteria for Dean/Director
of the Year, and criteria for Clinical Advocate of the Year. The agenda includes
everything that will be covered during the FNA Membership Assembly and FNSA Pre-
convention Workshop. As you can see, pre-convention provides a great opportunity to
network and learn how to become more involved with your pre-professional nursing
organization.
Please complete the registration form and return it to Willa Fuller (please see the
form) by September 10. The FNSA will provide complimentary registration and
luncheon for two representatives from each school. These representatives may be two
students or a student and consultant. Additional students are always welcome at the
cost noted on the registration form ($15). Please feel free to contact me if you have any

 2018 FNSA Pre-Convention Workshop

2018 Dean/Director of the Year
Special recognition will be given to a
Dean/Director who has shown support
to his/her Chapter Nursing Student
Association throughout the year. This
person is nominated by the Chapter
submitting a DETAILED letter that
explains the type of help and support
given. This letter will be submitted at
the Pre-Convention Workshop and the
Executive Board will make the final
selection. Presentation of this award
will be made at the Annual Convention.
The FNSA President will invite the award
winner to be a guest at the Annual
Convention Luncheon.
Clinical Advocate of the Year
This award will be presented to a clinical
nurse who demonstrates
professionalism and is an inspiration to
the next generation of nurses.
Nominations are to be made by
completing a letter that explains in
detail the type of help, support, and
educational experiences provided by
the nominee. All nominees will receive
a certificate of nomination and a letter
of congratulations. In addition, the
nominees’ immediate supervisor will
also be sent a letter stating the staff
nurse has been honored with the
nomination. DEADLINE: All nominations
must be submitted to the FNSA
President, Sarah Thurlow at the Pre-
Convention Workshop. The winner will
be invited to the Annual Convention and
recognized at the awards luncheon.
Running for State Office
Election of the 2019 FNSA Executive
Board occurs at each FNSA Convention.
During the convention, delegates will be
asked to choose the FNSA executive
board for the 2019 year. Interested
individuals who possess leadership
qualities and skills are asked to attend
the Pre-Convention workshop. The
nominations and elections chairperson,
Linda Genes will be providing detailed
information. This will include required
criteria and eligibility for candidacy
information. Deadline: Please
complete the enclosed candidacy forms
and return to the Nominations and
Elections chairperson, Linda Genes at
fnsaregion2@gmail.com no later than
September 30th 11:59pm, to be pre-
slated as a candidate.
Writing a Resolution
A resolution is a main motion put in
writing on a subject of great importance
expressed in formal wording. FNSA
resolutions serve to establish or make
known the positions of the Association
on health-related matters that are of
national and state significance which
affect student nurses, nursing, and the
health needs of the public. Resolutions
are discussed and voted on in the House
of Delegates. Resolutions adopted by a
majority vote continue in force until
rescinded. Download a copy of our

submitted to the Resolutions Chair,

October 5th at 11:59pm.
Host Schools Wanted
Nigam Reddy, the 2nd Vice President and
Convention and Programs Coordinator
announces the need for host schools at
the 2018 FNSA Annual Pre-Convention.
A host school is one that assists during
the annual convention. Serving as a
host school at convention earns
recognition for chapter nursing student
associations and points toward the
chapter of the year award. All available
and interested schools are asked to sign
up at the Pre-Convention Workshop.
Convention Game
Jeopardy Returns! We will be playing
one round of Jeopardy this year before
the Opening Night Party. Please stay
tuned for more details!
Constituency Forms and Bylaws
The Constituency application and
bylaws must be submitted annually. You
may do so 2 weeks prior to FNSA’s
Annual Convention or they can be
submitted at the Annual Convention site
during the delegates credentialing
process for the Annual House of
Delegates meeting. For those schools
unable to attend the FNSA State
Convention, the application may be sent
to the FNSA’s First Vice President no
later than ten working days after the
close of the House of Delegates meeting
of the same year.
All FNSA Constituents must submit new
and updated Chapter Bylaws. For those
schools who are submitting new
Chapter Bylaws, four sections must be
in compliance with the National Student
Nurses Association and the Florida
Nursing Student Association. They are:
Purpose and Function, Dues,
Membership, and Representation. Amy

clarification.
Awards
The FNSA presents awards to chapter
constituents for Community Health,
Legislative, Breakthrough to Nursing,
Chapter Activities, and Projects done
throughout the year. There is also an
award for an “artistic” project done by
the chapter based on the convention
theme. In addition to that there will be
an award given to the Chapter of the
Year based on excellence and number of
activities. In addition, several
membership awards and a CAPS faculty
award will be given. Detailed
information will be provided at the
Workshop. Other awards may be added
and you will be notified at
Preconvention.
Pennies PRN
We will once again be holding Pennies PRN
to raise money for Scholarships.
You can begin raining money now to bring
to convention to contribute to this worthy
cause. For Pennies PRN, the students
collect money to be contributed to the
Florida Nurses Foundation for FNSA
Scholarships. The more money that is
raised for these two events, the more
money will be given in FNSA scholarships at
