Grade 8 Course Syllabus

Adolescence is a time of changing social roles, relationships, experiences and expectations! It is


a time for developing skills for healthy adulthood and of experimentation in activities that may
be beneficial or harmful to health. Lifelong behaviour patterns, which can become protective
factors against or long-term risk factors for many chronic health conditions may be established or
strengthened. (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2005, p. 15)

I have divided the Grade 8 Saskatchewan curriculum into the 5 key areas of study as follows:

Statistics & Probability​: modes of data, displaying data, conclusions, independent events

Leadership Health Education:​ health enhancing behaviours, habits & assumptions, support & services for
non-curable diseases and violence , body image, well-being of self, others, and environment,
sexual health, family roles & responsibility
Career Education:​ self-image, personal skills, life roles, responding positively to change,
lifelong learning, potential career pathways, volunteerism
Students will also spend time in these areas of study:

Physical Personal fitness, major muscle groups, skill-related components of fitness,


Education complex movement skills (locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative),
biomechanics, tactics & strategies for individual and team performance, target
games, field games, invasion games, low-organizational games, cooperative
games, alternate environment activities, body management activities, engage
in repeated participation, technologies impact on fitness, basic first aid,
environmental influences, perspectives and influences on physical movement

Fine Arts Social Issues:​ Dance, drama, visual art, music, artist study

Practical and Cooking, baking, sewing, coding, robotics, woodworking, graphic arts,
Applied Arts photography, wildlife management, electrical, sheet metal, video game design
