1. Remove the 2 knobs from the top case and remove the 3 screws from the bottom case.

2. Open the case and unplug the cable connectors joining the top case to the bottom case.

3. Unplug the cable connecting the battery box to the main board and remove the two screws
that secure the main board.

4. Drill the hole for the bank select switch in the back panel, making sure that its location will
clear the main board and its components.

5. Locate the mask ROM (IC11) and desolder it, taking care not to damage any pads or tracks.

6. Solder the supplied chip socket in its place, ensuring it’s the correct way round. Push the ROM
Expansion board into the socket.

7. Reinstall the main board in the case and replace the 2 screws that hold it in place.

8. Solder 3 wires from the switch to the ‘Bank Select’ pads on the ROM Expansion board. The
centre terminal pin goes to the pad marked ‘C’, and the other 2 terminals connect to the pads
marked ‘1’ and ‘2’. It does not matter which wires goes to which.

9. Reconnect the battery box, as well as the connections from the top case. Replace the top
case and screws, taking care to not pinch any wires. Replace the 2 knobs.
Roland TR-505 ROM Expansion - Installation Instructions 3/3

The ROM Expansion, while containing 4 kits, is normally wired up to provide access
to 3 using a single toggle switch. (The stock TR-505 sounds are inaccessible)

If you want to have access to all four sound sets that the ROM Expansion includes,
you will need to use an alternative wiring scheme and different switches, which are
wired according to this diagram:
