I. OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the discussion, the grade 5 pupils will be able to do the following:

Pair of scissors Chalk
Rubber band Piece of cloth
Bond paper Hammer
Wooden stick Small stone
Copper wire

A. ENGAGEMENT
1. How is pupil A differ from pupil B? Differentiate their characteristics. Is respecting
individual differences important? Give your reason?
2. Show different materials on table (piece of paper, chalk)
Ask: Can you do something to make this object change physically? How?
B. EXPLORATION
1. Group pupils into five groups
2. Setting up the standard in doing the activity.
3. Remind the pupils about precautionary measures in doing activity
4. Direct each group to go to their specific assigned area
5. Remind each group to present their outputs in class after 15 minutes
I. Materials:
Pair of scissors bond paper
Wooden stick copper wire
Piece of cloth hammer
Rubber bond
II. Procedure
1. Take note of the following properties of the given objects by doing procedures 2 to 5: size,
color, odor, and texture. Record your observation in the given table.
2. Cut the bond paper into small strips
3. Stretch the rubber band in considerable length
4. Wind the copper wire around the wooden stick
5. Pound the stone using the hammer
Caution: Wrap the stone in cloth before pounding.
6. Complete the table to describe the changes in the materials.

D. ELABORATION
1. Help the pupils construct and express their own understanding. At this point, the
pupils should be able to understand that:
Physical change happens when matter undergoes changes in the physical properties.
These changes can be in their size, shape, color, texture, and state. Matter undergoes
physical change retains its composition.
IV. EVALUATION
1. Pupils’ activity outputs may be taken as a form of assessing their
performance or achievement.

V. Assignment
Make animal figurines out of these materials: molding clay, food color, beads,
and match sticks. Describe the physical changes that occurred during this
activity.
