QUARTER: First Quarter

SUBJECT: Science
GRADE LEVEL: VI- Feldspar
DATE: July 23, 2018 (Monday)

I. OBJECTIVE:

At the end of the discussion, the grade 5 pupils will be able to do the following:

 define physical change

 enumerate evidences of physical change
 defend examples of physical change by using evidence
 appreciate importance of physical changes

II. SUBJECT MATTER: Evidences of Physical Change

A. Reference:

Curriculum Guide 5
World of science 5, pp. 123-124
Science for Daily Use 5, p. 140 by Conchita T. Tan

B. Materials:
 Pair of scissors  Chalk
 Rubber band  Piece of cloth
 Bond paper  Hammer
 Wooden stick  Small stone
 Copper wire

C. Processes:
Describing, Observing, Identifying, Enumerating

D. Value Integration:
Respecting individual differences

III. INSTRCUTIONAL PROCEDURE:

A. ENGAGEMENT
1. How is pupil A differ from pupil B? Differentiate their characteristics. Is respecting
individual differences important? Give your reason?
2. Show different materials on table (piece of paper, chalk)
Ask: Can you do something to make this object change physically? How?

B. EXPLORATION
1. Group pupils into five groups
2. Setting up the standard in doing the activity.
3. Remind the pupils about precautionary measures in doing activity
4. Direct each group to go to their specific assigned area
5. Remind each group to present their outputs in class after 15 minutes

Evidences of Physical Change

I. Materials:
Pair of scissors bond paper
Wooden stick copper wire
Piece of cloth hammer
Rubber bond

II. Procedure
1. Take note of the following properties of the given objects by doing procedures 2 to 5: size,
color, odor, and texture. Record your observation in the given table.
2. Cut the bond paper into small strips
3. Stretch the rubber band in considerable length
4. Wind the copper wire around the wooden stick
5. Pound the stone using the hammer
Caution: Wrap the stone in cloth before pounding.
6. Complete the table to describe the changes in the materials.

C. EXPLANATION (done last Friday)

1. Reporting of output by each group
2. Take note of pupils’ responses to the activity.
3. Discuss the results of the activity.
4. Help pupils formulate ideas/concept by asking:
a. Are the products formed the same or different from the original material? Give
your reasons?
b. What kind of product is formed?
c. How are they formed?
d. How would you know if certain change in a material is physical change?
e. Cite other evidences of physical
f. Why is physical change important?

D. ELABORATION
1. Help the pupils construct and express their own understanding. At this point, the
pupils should be able to understand that:

Background Information for Teachers:

Physical change happens when matter undergoes changes in the physical properties.
These changes can be in their size, shape, color, texture, and state. Matter undergoes
physical change retains its composition.

IV. EVALUATION
1. Pupils’ activity outputs may be taken as a form of assessing their
performance or achievement.
2. Put a check mark before each number that shows physical change.

1. burning wood

_____ 2. cutting the cake into halves.

3. drying of clothes

4. grinding of meat

5. boiling of water

6. melting of ice cube

7. souring milk

8. breaking of glass
