UJIAN AKHIR SEMESTER / TEST

MATEMATIKA TEKNIK KIMIA II / CHEMICAL ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS II

SELASA, 3 JULI 2018 / TUESDAY, JULY 3RD 2018

PUKUL / TIME : 12.00 – 16.00

INSTRUKSI / INSTRUCTION :

 Because of unnecessary translation effort, all the problems will be written IN

ENGLISH
 Makes group consist of 3 people (4 people if necessary)
 All your work should be sent to my emails at bayu.triwibowo@mail.unnes.ac.id
 Sent your work in the form of Ms. Excel
 Score :
Problem 1 (50 points)
Problem 2 (20 points)
Problem 3 (20 points)
Tidiness (10 points)
Unprofesional conducts (- 30 points)
 Chemical Engineering Students should act like Sparta of 300. Sparta never retreat,
Sparta never surrender. Show me your guts
 Don’t try to trick The Trickster, any unprofesional conduct and behaviour such as
plagiarism or cheating is very easy to detect.
1. A super submarine “Slulup Jeru” at G m (G is the mean value of two last digits
NIM of students in groups multiplied by 10) depths have sophisticated lifesupport
system. The oxygen for breathing supplied from hydrolisis mechanism to separate
it from hydrogen. Oxygen used for life and hydrogen used for fuel. Oxygen mass
fraction at water as a fuction of ocean depth shown at tables below :

Ocean Depths (m) Oxygen mass

fraction
225 0.16
300 0.15
350 0.13
420 0.12
480 0.1
535 0.08
600 0.05
655 0.01

If water that flow from ocean just consist of hydrogen, oxygen, and other fraction
(X) with fixed hidrogen fraction at 0.6
The density of Hydrogen = 0.082 kg/m3 ; Oxygen = 1.331 kg/m3 ; ocean water =
1027 kg/m3.
If total amout of oxygen needed were 10000 liters/day and half of it supplied
when the submarine goes to ocean surface. How much amount of ocean water (in
kg) need to processes by hydrolisis process?
But, the problems not only about oxygen supplied.....
Amount of energy supply must be calculated. Half of fuel supplied by fuel cell on
board. Half of fuel supplied from combustion of hydrogen with rate of reaction :
Xaf
dX A  1 X A 
  C Ao   rA  0.01C A C A  C Ao 
 1  X 
1.5

 rA  A 

Hydrogen reactor able to convert (XA) 90 % of hydrogen. If from 1 kg of

hydrogen resulted 40 watt. How much energy total needed for the submarine.
Made any assumption to support your problem solved. (CAo = 0,6)

2. Heat capacity of H2O(l) is calculated as a function of temperature

Cp/R = 8,712 + 1,25.10-3 T – 0,18.10-6 T2 (T in Kelvin)
while R is gas constant
Calculate the amount of sensible heat to change the temperature of water from
25oC to 85 oC. Use any numerical integration method with interval of 5oC.
3. To open a briefcase, combination of numbers needed to be found. The 4 digit
number is 4 first decimal number of x after 0 in certain function. The function that
need to be solve is function with characteristic :
 f’’(x) = 2
 when x = 0 ; f(x) = 2
 when x = 5 ; dy/dx = 4

Find the combination of the numbers to open the briefcase (x = 0,????)
