A pleasant morning to everyone

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing. There is nothing in life that is more
valuable than good health. For without heath there is no peace, no happiness and no success.

Health depends upon a lot of factors like food, pollution, sleeping habits, mental condition, air, water,
sunlight’s and a lot of other things. That’s why even our medical clinic here at NWU is geared towards
maintaining a disease free and healthy university populace.

Let me familiarize to you once again and walk you through what the medical clinic can offer to each one
of you.

But before anything I would like to introduce to you our medical staff.

1. The medical clinic attends to medical emergencies among students and personnel.

Those emergencies that require urgent intervention to prevent worsening of the situation

DOB, Chest pain, Severe uncontrolled bleeding, fainting, broken or displaced bones, traumatic or

Head injuries, extensive burn injuries, poisoning, and sudden severe pain.

Health monitoring: that includes your BP monitoring, Height and Weight monitoring for students.

2. The medical clinic thru the University Physician renders Medical consultations and medical referrals to
students and personnel.

Our University Physician is available from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Mondays to Fridays. If you have any
concern or problems regarding health the University Physician is with free of charge.

Issuance or releasing of medical certificates for employees is from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, we only give
medical certificates for 2 days sick leave, beyond that we require you to get medical certificate
from your Physician.

For students who will get medical certificate, remember that we will not give you a medical
certificate unless you came to the University clinic for consultation.

We also give free medications to all students as long as it is available in the medical Clinic.

The Medical Clinic is open from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM, if the University Physician is not available
you can always visit us because we are all registered nurses at the medical clinic. For severe
cases we always refer it to our University Physician because she is always “on call”.
3. The medical clinic conducts Annual Physical Examination to students and personnel.

For all students who is enrolled in the University will undergo Physical Examination
yearly, we will just inform your advisers for the schedule.

For Nursery, Kinder, grades 1 2 and 3 we only require urinalysis result, for grade 4 5 and
5 we require you to give your CBC and urinalysis result, for our new students that
includes transferees please bring 2x2 picture plus your requirements

Junior and Senior high school students your requirements includes 2x2 picture, CBC and
urinalysis result. We will communicate with the laboratory department for the schedule
of extraction, and then the laboratory department will forward the results at the
medical clinic.

4. The Medical Clinic conducts Annual Chest X-ray examination to students and personnel as
part of their physical examination thru its radiology section.

All students will undergo Chest x-ray yearly except for elementary pupils.

5. The medical clinic conducts special examinations/ screening programs to students and
personnel.

FBS and Blood Chemistry

Cholesterol

Foot screening

Bone and nerve screening

But these depend on the pharmaceutical company sponsoring the screening.

6. The Medical Clinic recommends to higher authorities important health concerns that need to
be addressed in the University.

For example:

Students who have positive result in their drug test

Contagious diseases:

PTB
Chicken pox

Mumps and measles

Students who have reactive Hepa A and B screening.

Major accident- vehicular accident

This is in general but for elementary and high school students you will only undergo CBC
and urinalysis test.

7. The medical clinic participates in University affairs.

First aid treatment and assistance on special university programs like intramurals, graduation,
fire and earthquake drill and all programs of the university.

8. The medical clinic conducts annual medical mission to the adopted and nearby barangays of
Laoag City during anniversary foundation.

9. Other Medical services;

Operation timbang/ Annual Nutrition program

Employees Laboratory Screening

Canteen inspection

Dengue prevention

Fire and earthquake drill

First aid assistance on special university programs

Vaccination per demand- we offer flu, pneumonia and Hepa B vaccine as per demand especially
to high risk students

Flu vaccine is available at the medical clinic but its not for free.
