Welcome to a great year at Jones Magnet Middle School.
Grading Scale
Homework 10%
Classwork 35% Sixth grade students will cover American History from “beginnings
A 93-100 35%
Tests / Projects to 1865”, which includes U.S. geography, Native Americans,
A-
Quizzes90-92 20% exploration, colonization, the Revolutionary War, new government,
B+ 87-89 westward expansion, and the Civil War. There is NO SOL test for
B 83-86 6th grade Social Studies.
B- 80-82

C 73-76 Supplies:

F Below 64 Please provide your student with the following supplies.

1. 1 Notebook (spiral only 120 pages)

2. 15-20 glue sticks (will be used throughout the year – student should
start with one and replace as necessary)
3. Colored pencils
4. Pencils / Pens
5. Highlighters
6. Scissors
7. 1 box of tissues

**Textbooks will not be issued to students, they will be used as resource in the
classroom.**

Chromebooks
Mrs. Hume
Your student is expected to follow
HCS procedure and policy when
using their Chromebooks in the
classroom. Any violation of the
policy may result in a referral to
administration and loss of
Chromebook privileges.
Test Correction Policy
Upon return of a test, students not scoring a 100% will be
able to complete test corrections.
- Each corrected question is worth ½ of the original
value of the question. (example: 25 questions on
the test, 4 points each – all corrected questions are
worth 2 points. A student that originally missed 5
questions scored an 80% after doing the test
corrections that student’s grade is now a 90%)

- Directions
1. Rewrite the ENTIRE question (for all missed
questions)
2. Rewrite the ENTIRE correct answer

Test corrections are mandatory, they allow for

immediate review of an assessment.

Quia

Google Classroom Your student will be creating an account on

Your
Class Notes, Homework Checks, and some
classwork assignments will be posted on
Google Classroom. Check with your student
on how to use this site.
Homework Checks
A unique homework assignment that I often
use is a homework check. A homework
check is a 5-10-question assignment on
Quia that will evaluate student learning.
Students will be assigned to study the notes
from class and complete the check upon the
next class meeting for a homework grade.
the website Quia.com. They will have a
personal log-in and password. Quia is
accessible from school and home. Mutilple
assessments and classwork will be
administered through the Quia account. The
test format will mimic the end of the year SOL
test for 8th grade students. Your student’s
account will store all assessment results for
later viewing. The Quia site also contains
practice quizzes and games for each SOL.
