ABOUT ME
Hi! I’m Angus Delaney and I am an extremely passionate and invested Year 11
student at Ringwood. I would like to be able to represent the student body so I
could gain a more direct ability to increase student wellbeing and attitudes
towards the college by taking part in the organization and execution of various
programs and carnivals throughout the year. Additionally to be able to voice the
concerns not only of my own cohort but the whole school and be able to initiate
to solve these concerns. An increased role in the encouragement of junior and
senior students to heighten their involvement in school activities is also
something I would enjoy greatly.

I believe my personal attributes to be that I am very focused and oriented on the


task at hand ensuring I am organised and posses proficient communication skills.
I’m always enthusiastic and energetic about learning and I believe these
infectious qualities help lift the attitudes of those around me. I’m always pushing
myself to be the best I can be and take into account the views of my peers when
making decisions. I believe these qualities are not only important but also crucial
in being a leader.
Particularly I believe that these attributes are directly transferrable to the role of
Music Prefect, which is the portfolio role I am most suited to and I have had
significant commitment to the Music Program since Year 7.

Why Music Prefect


As stated above my key attributes are my enthusiasm, energy, focus,
communication skills, organization and drive to be the best I can be. These skills
link strongly to the role of Music Prefect, as I must be organized in order to help
in the running of extra curricular music activities as well as being prepared to
MC for music concerts and events throughout the year. My energy and
communication skills are also important for being an MC of the Music Program to
keep the audience engaged and informed. Being an ambassador for the program
would require immense enthusiasm and an understanding and love of the
program I have gained throughout years of commitment to the program.

My personal commitment to the Music Program began in Year 7 and through


hard work, enthusiasm and my drive to achieve the best I can I was extremely
successful, moving quickly into senior bands and now take part in Symphonic
Band, Senior Stage Band and the Jazz Combo, playing the Tenor and Alto
Saxophone. I have also in an effort to challenge myself been teaching myself
piano. I have made so many friends and memories due to the Music Program and
wish to use the role of Music Prefect to encourage others in doing the same,
regardless of year level.
Achievements and leadership experience
 Beginning in Year 7 I was voted in by my peers as ‘band representative’,
for Training Band, which meant I would take on extra responsibility to
ensure the cohesive working of the band.
 This year I have taken great pride in being one of the two Year 11 2018
Music Captains.
 I completed my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award in Year 9 and the 3
months community service I did as part of that was playing music on my
saxophone for aged care residents of Donwood Aged Care Facility.
 Additionally in conjunction with music I have taken part in the colleges
Senior and Junior Production’s, last year receiving a Lyrebird Youth
Award for ‘Best Comedic Performance.’
 As part of the colleges community involvement program I recently
performed at the Ringwood RSL in the Jazz Combo at the Long Tan
Luncheon with respect to Vietnamese Veterans.

My Vision for Music Prefect 2019


As a long time student of the program I have noticed people around me
losing interest and enjoyment in the music program as well as parents
being uninterested during concerts. In an effort to combat this I would
start up an new ensemble which combines instrumental music with a
vocal element, performing famous songs and having a soloist singer to
perform them live at events such as Jazz Night and other concerts
throughout the year. Not only will an ensemble like this appeal to
students, as they will be performing Music more relevant to them that
they know and parents will find this more enjoyable as they will
recognise the songs and find enjoyment in that.
Overall as Music Prefect the lasting legacy I would like to leave behind is
to have made students and parents get more enjoyment out of the
program, and also to heighten the involvement of the Music Program in
other school events such as having ensembles and groups perform at
assemblies and carnivals throughout the year.

Duties:
 Participate actively in the instrumental and ensemble Music Program
 Encourage participation and generate enthusiasm for all Music Program
activities in the College
 Initiate the organisation, planning and running of extra-curricular music activities
in the College
 Assist in the planning and organisation of extra-curricular music activities in the
College
 Be an ambassador for the Music Program
 Liaise with leaders across all year levels to provide performance opportunities for
students at a range of College events and assemblies
 Support the Director of Music and other music staff in the effective operation of
the Music Program activities
 Write speeches to present on stage at information evenings, assemblies and
other events as required
 MC the music concerts throughout the year
