40 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Pump Systems

Multi Drive: Multi Master Mode

• More pumps are started when demand
requires
• Only one drive/pump regulating, others
locked at maximum frequency.

41 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Pump System Diagnostics

● Maintenance diagnostics for pumps in MultiPump systems.

● Run Time counters for all pumps.
● Possible to set maintenance alarms/faults
● Possible to push the pump last in the starting order if it has reached
the maintenance alarm limit.

42 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

2-Zone PID control

● 2 different feedbacks
● Min/Max/Average/Sum/Diff/SQRT
functions
● Same setpoint or different setpoint.
● Same setpoint if e.g. regulating on
minimum temperature from 2
sensors.
● Different setpoints if regulating e.g.
on both flow and pressure.
● Flow during normal operation, but
based on pressure if valve is
closed.
● Regulation on minimum or
maximum error.

43 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Pressure Loss Compensation

● Compensates for pressure drop along the piping due to miss-placed

pressure sensor.
● Pressure sensors are usually installed direct after the pump, but the
point to be controlled is further along the piping system.
● At no usage, the pressure stays the same.
● At usage, the pressure drops along the pipe.

Sensor at position 1, but pressure to be

controlled is actually at position 2

44 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Start Boost

● Gives an extra torque boost at start

● To get the pump running

● Especially good in waste water where the pump might be clogged

● some positive displacement pumps which might require a high

starting torque.

45 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Sleep Function with boosting

● Boost the controlled process value to a defined

point above the setpoint before going to sleep.

● To avoid unnecessary cycling of the

motor/pump.

● Excellent for hydrofor applications or small

leakage in the piping system.

46 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

No Demand

● Detection of a No Demand/Flow situation

● Forcing the frequency down and allowing the drive going into sleep
mode if possible

● Enters normal control mode again if needed due to process

feedback.

47 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Process Supervision

● Used to supervise that the actual/process value stays within

allowed limits.
● Identify e.g. pipe leakage or if an unstable process goes
outside the limits
● Fault or alarm Upper Limit

48 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Soft Fill

● The Soft Fill -function is used to

bring the process to a certain
level/pressure at slow speed before
the PID Controller kicks in.

● This function can be used e.g. to fill

the empty piping slowly, avoiding
“water hammers” that could
otherwise break the pipes.

49 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Priming Pump

● Priming pump is a smaller pump which is

used to prime the inlet of the bigger
main pump to prevent the main pump
from sucking air.

● Controlled with digital output

● Started before the main pump

50 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Auto-Cleaning

● The function is used to remove any dirt or stuff that may have
attached to the pump impeller. E.g. in waste water systems.
● Auto Cleaning function can also be used to clear the blocked pipe
or valve.
● Activation based on DI, Real Time Clock, Current Limit

51 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Motor Pre-Heat

• Used to avoid condensation problems

• DC-current will be fed to motor to keep motor warm
• Operating modes:
• Always in stop state
• Controlled by digital input
• Temperature Limit (Heatsink)
• Temperature Limit (Motor Pt100 ->requires e.g. OPTBH board)

52 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Run Interlock

• Run Interlock can be used for example when controlling

dampers in air ducts.
• Signal from drive´s relay that start command is given and
damper should open.
• Signal from damper´s limit switch connected to Run
Interlock telling when damper is fully opened.

53 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Timer Functions

• 5 Intervals
• An interval can be set to be active e.g. from Monday to Friday, between 7:30-17:00
• 3 Timers
• Timer will be activated by digital input on rising edge and stays active after falling edge
as long as defined by “Duration” –parameter.
• Each timer can be reset individually by separate digital input
• Intervals and timers can be assigned to TimeChannels 1-3
• TimeChannels shows up as virtual digital inputs (virtual slot) when
choosing signal to connect to e.g. Run Enable

54 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

PID Controller

• PID controller for internal use (controlling Frequency

Reference)

• Values can be scaled to process units. Meaning monitoring

values and parameters can be shown as e.g. bar on panel.

• Two different setpoints can be used and switching between

them with digital input.

• Two feedback signals can be used. Feedback function can

be set to e.g. MIN, MAX, MEAN, Source1-Source2,
Source1+Source2

55 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Maintenance Counter

• Used to indicate to the operator that maintenance actions needs to be

done for the process (e.g. belt needs to be changed or pump needs to
be serviced)
• 2 Counter modes:
• Running hours (h)
• Motor axis revolutions (kRev)
• Alarm and Fault limits can be defined
• Maintenance alarm/fault will be triggered when counter value exceeds
alarm/fault limit
• Counter reset by DI or keypad

56 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

User Levels

• Intended to restrict the visibility of parameters and prevent

unauthorized parameterization on the keypad
• Three different user levels:
• All Menus
• Monitor
• Favorites
• User defined access code for each user level

57 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Protection Functions

• Quick Stop
• Used to force the drive to stop regardless from the control place or control signals

• 3 Stop modes:
• Coasting Stop
• Stop according to Forced Stop deceleration ramp
• Stop according to selected stop function

• Activated either from DI or Fieldbus (FB ControlWord bit 12)

• Selectable response (No action, Alarm, Fault)
• Perfect for Safe Stop 1 functionality

58 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Flux Braking

• Motor voltage is increased when braking, in order to increase flux

(and losses) in the motor.
• Increases the motor’s braking capacity
• In cases where braking resistors are not needed
• Speed remains controlled during braking
• The effect of flux braking is better at smaller motors. In higher power
motors (>100 kW), the effect is very limited
• Note! Flux braking converts energy into heat in the motor and should
be used intermittently.

59 | Danfoss Drives, VACON 100 Sales Presentation

Temperature Measurement and Protection
Functions

• Temperature Fault 1 & 2

• Requires a temperature measurement option board to be
installed (e.g. OPTBH). Otherwise this function will be
hidden from the panel.
• 6 First temperature inputs will be detected automatically
(when counting from slot A to slot E)
• User can select from a check box list which
temperature measurement signals
(Temperature Input 1 – 6) are used for
temperature alarm/fault triggering
• A Temperature fault or alarm will be triggered if any
of selected temperature signals exceeds defined
alarm or fault temperature
• Selectable response (No Action, Alarm, Fault)
