Staffing Update
Vacancies Notes
• 58 teachers • We have filled over 50 vacancies in the last two weeks! This
number also includes new positions added (like the 17 ELL/
o 24 elementary
bilingual) and resignations.
o 22 secondary
• We are extending division-level offers and placing candidates in
o 12 SPED key vacancies.
• 19 classified staff • We are securing long-term substitute coverage for all staff
o 8 instructional assistants scheduled to be out on FMLA/leave of absence at the beginning
of the school year.
o 2 custodians
o 2 nurses
o 3 school nutrition
o 3 office associates
o 1 in school suspension monitor

Operations Update
• Locks – We are on track to have installed more than 1270 new locks on doors by August 24.
• Water – We are on track to have almost 300 new hydration stations and filtered water fountains installed in every
school built after 1986, including 31 new ADA compliant bi-level water fountains (and have a school branded water
bottle for all staff/students!).
• Bathrooms – We are on track to have replaced 200 paper towel dispensers, 150 toilet paper dispensers, 150 soap
dispensers, 244 faucets, 144 sinks, 20 stall doors, 200 stall locks, and 100 ceiling tiles throughout the division by
August 25. This work will continue into the school year as we continue to make improvements in our bathrooms.
• Nutrition – We are on track to have installed 5 new ovens, 2 new walk-in freezers, 2 new steamers, and 2 new
serving lines in schools.
• Transportation – We are on track to install 300 car seats in our buses by August 31.
• School Beautification Events – An RPS Shines event will occur at every school August 18 – 25!
Training Updates
• School Leadership Academy – We brought 200 school leaders (principals, assistant principals, and other
leaders ) together over four days to build skill and knowledge on creating strong school cultures, coaching and
developing teachers, and managing school operations.
• New Principal Orientation – We brought our 9 new principals together for overviews of critical RPS systems
and processes (e.g., budget, evaluation, data, and communications) needed to successfully launch the year.
• New Teacher Orientation – We will bring together over 200 teachers new to RPS over the next five days at
New Teacher Institute to provide training on how to access RPS curricular resources and to introduce culturally
responsive teaching practices.
• Active Shooter Training – In partnership with RPD, we brought principals, assistant principals, athletic
directors, and the school culture and security teams together to learn active shooter protocols to ensure
student and staff safety.
• Bus Operator Training – We brought more than 50 bus operator trainees together to complete driver training and
review the RPS Code of Conduct for bus drivers.
• Custodial Crew Chief Training – We will bring together 46 crew chiefs for custodial training and to review best
practices for cleaning buildings and and using supplies.
• Cafeteria Manager Training – We brought together all cafeteria managers for an overview of risk management and
health department protocols.
• Hard-to-Staff Vacancies – CTE (firefighter, EMT), Arts (music, drama), world languages, ESL, secondary STEM
• TDAP – 500 incoming 6th graders still need this immunization
• Course Schedules – Ensuring that all high school students are appropriately scheduled for the first day
