A. Training Needs Analysis

The participants of the literacy program are UPLB students and the site where the
program was held is at CAS B04. The topic of the program was about the LGBTQIA+
community and SOGIE bill. These topics were chosen because as we know it there is still a lot
of misconceptions the surround these topics and the Filipino masses often judge the community
according to these prejudices and misconceptions. Hence it is desirable that we conduct a
program that educates its audience about the community. Also, the SOGIE bill is one of the
most controversial topic nowadays for it receives a lot of hate from different institutions of the
society especially the church. Most of the attacks that the bill receives are grounded on
ignorance and hence the facilitators wanted to raise awareness regarding the topic.

The audiences were chosen because most students who are studying in the university
belong to the younger generation and are active in social media which exposes them to a lot of
avenues to influence and spread the information to a bigger audience which is desirable since
the main objective of the facilitators is to educate the Filipino people regarding the LGBTQIA+
community and SOGIE bill. Moreover, it is more convenient to invite the students in the
university since the venue is located at the university. Students of different background attended
the program, students of different sexual orientation, identity and expression were present which
made the discussion of the topic richer.
B. Detailed activity plan
C. Sample of at least one session's activity in ADIDS format

1. Activity: Ice Breaker

An Ice Breaker was initially planned to stimulate the audience and actively involve them
in the activity. The activity aimed to engage the audience and to introduce the topics to be
presented for the symposium through some mini-games and/or ice breakers related to Sexuality
and Gender.
The Ice-breaker that was planned to use in the seminar is Human Bingo which uses
bingo sheets with get-to-know-you questions. The audience are given a “bingo” sheet
individually and are asked to move around the room and try to fill their bingo sheet with a
different person’s name. Once they have the whole sheet completed, they should shout “bingo!”.
The participant should have each person sign at least once (if the audience are 16 or less
people). The winner of the game should read the names written in each box and have the
named person tell which category he/she falls in.
Below is a sample bingo sheet, or the facilitators can opt to create their own original
“bingo” sheet.

b-2012.pdf)
2. Discussion
The goal of this activity is to have a dynamic with the participants as well as to acquaint
them with the topic regarding Sexuality and Gender. The Human Bingo Game allows the
participants to get to know the diversity of the people in the audience. The game also aimed to
celebrate and acknowledge the differences that unite the audience. Finally, this activity aimed to
break the stereotypes and discrimination present in the society.

3. Input
After the ice breaker was performed, the proper lecture series will follow. In this lecture
series, two interrelated topics will be discussed. First, a lecture about the different gender and
sexual orientation was made. This is followed by an overview of the Sexual Orientation, Gender
Identity, or Expression (SOGIE) Bill.
The lecture about LGBTQI++ included different types of gender orientations as well as
sexuality. The facilitators will provide a thorough but easily understandable discussion
differentiating the different gender types.
SOGIE Bill or the ‘Anti-Discrimination Act’ was then explained in relation to the prior topic
discussed. A brief history was provided to inform the audience of its progress through the years.
The content of the bill was then enumerated as well as the privileges entailed with the bill. Some
issues regarding the ongoing bill was also discussed with the audience.

4. Deepening
An 7-minute open forum was conducted every after each topic was presented. The
audience were encouraged to ask questions about things that were unclear to them that is
related to the topic presented. There was also a discussion and clarification of some of the
issues and misconceptions about the different genders.

5. Synthesis
A final run-through and quick summary of the topics presented was done in order for the
audience to remember and understand the different gender orientations and the SOGIE bill.
Furthermore, handouts were provided so that the audience may have references in the future
about the topics if they want to learn more about these topics. Finally, everyone was
encouraged to spread what they have learned during the seminar and educate more people,
especially those who have little idea of these topics. The seminar aimed to educate the people
to end any form of discrimination happening in the society.

D. Highlights of the semester

● The initial plan was to conduct Sex Education to Grade 9 students of Los Baños
National High School (LBNHS). The study plan was already finalized. This project
would have given a comprehensive information about Sex and related studies to
the public high school students. Also, this could be a start of other projects
related to sex education for the Filipino youth.
● The other plan was to conduct a financial literacy program for the Pantawid
Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) recipients. We have already partnered with Mr.
Albert Valencia to help us produce a study plan that will help 4Ps recipient utilize
their monthly subsidy. This project would have helped them in budgeting, saving,
and circulating their money for their own benefits.
● The conducted project was a crash course on LGBTQIA+ and SOGIE bill to
UPLB students. This allowed us to raise awareness through our lecture at the
same time learn from our audience through their questions and informative
statements.

E. Problems encountered
● The first plan was supposed to be about teaching Sex Education to Grade 9
students of Los Baños National High School (LBNHS), but there was a conflict
because the end of high school classes are nearing.
● The second plan was supposed to be about teaching Financial Literacy to
Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) receivers at Barangay Bambang,
Los Baños, Laguna on May 14, but there was a conflict because the Barangay
and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections was scheduled on the same date.

F. Suggestions/Recommendations for other NSTP classes

● Finalize the topic, participants, venue as early as possible, so there will be plenty
of time to prepare.
● The topic/s chosen must be relevant to the participants and the venue should be
accessible by the participants.
● If possible, find a person that is knowledgeable about the chosen topic and ask
for his/her insights instead of relying solely to the Internet.
● Make sure that the information from the Internet is correct and cite the sources
where the information came from.
