compressor problems

4. estimate the power consumption of a single stage double acting air compressor with
particulars ; 1. cylinder diameter = 280 mm , (ii) stroke = 200 mm (iii) clearence volume
= 3 % of stroke volume , (iv) suction pressure = 1 bar (v) delivery pressure = 7.5 bar (vi)
speed = 350 rpm , the compression and expansion curves follow law pv 1.3= C

5. a two stage compressor works between 1 bar and 16 bar , the inlet temperature = 30 0
C , determine the exit temperature , if the intercooling is perfect and compression is
isentropic. also find the work done per kg of air with and without intercooling.

6. a single state single acting air compressor compresses 15 m 3 /min air at 100 kn/m2 , and
297 kn/m2 to 700 kn/m2 . calculate theortical power , if the compression (a) isothermal
( b) adiabatic , take y for air = 1.4

7. find the percentage saving in work by compressing air in two stage from 1 bar to 7 bar in
single stage , assume compression index 1.35 in both cases in two stage compressor.
