Title of Project: Coconut (Cocos nucifera) fiber husk and Mung (Vigna radiata) beans as an
improvised water purifying device

I. Problems or Questions being addressed

1. Are Coconut (Cocos nucifera) fiber husk and Mung (Vigna radiata) beans
effective in removing undesirable chemicals, materials, and biological
contaminants from raw water?

2. At what ratio are Coconut (Cocos nucifera) fiber husk and Mung (Vigna radiata)
beans as an improvised water purifying device most effective?

3. Are there any significant differences observed between the improvised purifying
device and that of a traditional purifying device?

II. Hypothesis

1. Coconut (Cocos nucifera) fiber husk and Mung (Vigna radiata) beans are not
effective in removing undesirable chemicals, materials, and biological
contaminants from raw water.
2. If the ratio of Coconut (Cocos nucifera) fiber husk and Mung (Vigna radiata)
beans are increased, then the produced level of efficacy of the improvised device
will also increase.

3. There are no significant differences observed between the improvised purifying


device and that of a traditional purifying device

III. Methods and Procedures

All materials that are needed will first be gathered. The Coconut (Cocos nucifera) husk fiber

and Mung beans (Vigna radiate) will be gathered in Quezonhill, Baguio city. The encasement

needed to contain the purifying materials will be of recycled bottles and can be gathered

anywhere. After gathering the materials needed, the bottle will be cleaned.

2 bottles will be needed; 1 for the filtration bottle and 1 for the filtered water to be contained.

Small holes will be drilled on the cap of the filtration bottle. The holes should smaller than the

materials that will be used for purification to prevent unnecessary materials to mix with the

purified water. The bottom of the filtration bottle would also be cut for the The Coconut (Cocos

nucifera) husk fiber and Mung beans (Vigna radiate); and also for the water that would be tested

to enter. The two bottles will be joined together by their caps (filtration bottle on top and

resulting bottle below it) and the device will be sealed water tight to prevent leaks.

The materials, Coconut (Cocos nucifera) husk fiber and Mung beans (Vigna radiate), will be

contained in the upper bottle making sure that the ratio of the materials are equal. Fill the bottle

until dense enough for the water to pass through the materials thoroughly. Pour the unfiltered

water in the upper bottle and eventually the water will come down the resulting bottle.

What have I learned this quarter in MAPEH? Obviously, I would say technical terms such as the
authors of the paintings, names of the musicians, origin of certain sports and some other topics.
All of these are essential in learning because it would be needed on exams and quizzes because
frankly, everyone wants high grades! But if I had to ask what I have REALLY learned in
MAPEH, there is so much more than just knowing the authors and painters of compositions if I
myself haven’t learned the moral lessons of these topics.

The morals of MAPEH can be found on the simplest and most chaotic lives of the painters and
songwriters or even in the different methods of having a healthy lifestyle. All I’m saying is that,
we sometimes ignore the true essence of some stuff because we get too caught up on the reward
of learning something new. I admit that I am not that kind of person who internalizes lessons but
I do know in my mind what I should have really done. As a student, I should know the
importance of learning MAPEH in different ways because in the end all of these will be needed
especially in my personal life and my road to the future.

On a lighter note, MAPEH was one of the most enjoyable subjects because of the hands on
activities and interactive lessons. I just wish I could have participated more during discussions
because I may have missed some important notes and I wish could have done better in quizzes
and activities. All in all, MAPEH first quarter is a jump start to a more productive, more
interactive and happier MAPEH in the coming quarters we will be facing.
