Problems Applying The Concept of Over-all Interchange Factor:

Given: Two gray bodies: Body 1 at 200oC and Body 2 at 100oC with emissivities of 0.6 an 0.8
respectively.
Required: the net heat transfer rate by radiation from Body 1 to Body 2 per m 2, if:

1. Both bodies are infinite parallel planes with equal areas.

2. Bodies 1 and 2 are concentric spheres with radii of 20 and 50 cm respectively.
3. Same as the case in no. 2 but Body 1 is very small compared to Body 2.
4. Bodies 1 and 2 are parallel disks each with 4 cm radius and 5 cm apart.
5. Bodies 1 and 2 are similar squares 1m on a side and 40 cm apart with reradiating wall.
6. Body 1 is a wall, 12m x 20 m and Body 2 is the adjacent floor 20m x 20m.
7. Bodies 1 and 2 are infinitely long planes with widths 20 and 25 m respectively, having a
common edge and perpendicular to each other.
8. Bodies 1 and 2 are parallel disks with radii of 8 cm and 4 cm respectively, 6 cm apart.
9. Body 1 is a sphere with radius of 50cm and Body 2 is a disk with radius 20 cm, center to
center distance of the sphere and the disk is 40 cm.
