Casualty Contact Procedures

In some electrical accidents, the
injured or unconscious casualty
remains in contact with the live wire or
equipment.

1
Rescue should only be attempted after
power has been turn off.

In some cases a low voltage, when

power cannot be turned off, break
contact if possible. Use a dry board,
rubber hose or dry polypropylene rope

2
to move either the casualty or the line.

An object can sometimes be thrown to

separate the casualty from the wire.
If
you do not know the voltage treat it as
high.

WARNING: Even with dry wood or

rubber, touching the casualty can be
dangerous. High voltage can jum a
considerable gap and objects that are

3
normally insulators may become
conductors.

Only personnel trained and equipped

to use special live line tools can
attempt rescue safely.
