Principles in Assesing Materials


1.accessibility : the level of difficulty is in concordance with the learners' level of
proficiency ;

2. lexibility : the coursebook is organised so as to leave room for optional and


alternative and supplementary activities without imposing a linear route through the
book;

3. variety : the coursebook shows a large range of topics and activities which enhance
learners' motivation;

4. appropriacy to the context (here Romanian) : the content of the coursebook and the
approach take into account the teaching/learning context and are in tune with the
learners' particular need and interests;

5.learner autonomy: the materials facilitate the progression from dependence on the
teacher and on the mateials in use, towards developing confidence and independence
by training them to develop their learning strategies according to their individual
learning styles ;

6.gradual progress : the items to be learned are selected, presented and sequenced so

as to lead learners from the familiar to the unfamiliar, from les difficult to more dificult
items ;

7.authenticity : use of materials which were not originally designe for language
teaching, but for real situations (newspapers brochures, leaflets instructions, recipes,
letters, advetisements recordings of the news, announcements, etc. )

8.suitability to age/level : the topics, the materials and the tasks are selected

according to the learners' age and cognitive level ;

9.educational value :the content and the tasks of the coursebook have a formative role
in addition to the language acquisition process ;

10.student-centredness : activities and communication are geared to helping the


learners' progress ;

11.balance of skills/tasks : all our skills are represented and developed in line with
learners' needs and progression and there enough material provided for appropriate
integrated skills work ;

12.clear way through (sequencing/instructions) :the material and the activities are
logically and smoothly sequenced and instructions are clearly formulated so as to help
learners find their way through the coursebook
