STEP 1 | Admission
Who is eligible for Admission?
Anyone 18 years of age or older qualifies
for admission to El Camino College. If
under the age of 18, you will qualify if you
have 1) graduated from high school or 2)
passed the California High School
Certificate of Proficiency Test.
El Camino College may admit as a special
part-time or special full-time student anyone
in grades 11 or 12 who, in the opinion of the
college president, may benefit from instruc-
tion. Concurrently enrolled 11th and 12th
grade students must comply with all policies,
follow all procedures, and meet all require-
ments by the published deadlines for each
semester and/or term.
California Residence Requirement
Can I apply as a California resident?
To attend El Camino College as a resident
of California, a student is required to have
been a legal resident of the state, as defined
in the California Education Code, for more
than one year immediately preceding the res-
idence determination date. The residence
determination date is the day preceding the
first day of the semester or term.
In addition, you must meet the two-year
intent provisions of California residency
code, and must not have engaged in any
actions that are contrary to establishing resi-
dency in the state of California.
How Do I Apply?
Apply online by visiting www.elcamino.
edu and clicking on Apply Online – it’s that
easy! New and returning students (those with
an absence of a primary term: Fall or Spring
Semester; excluding Summer and Winter
Session) must complete an application.
Don’t forget to submit official transcripts
from all accredited colleges and trade
schools attended. If you are applying for
Advanced Placement credit, then you must
submit your official high school transcripts.
Step 2 | Assessment
How Do I Make Arrangements For Testing?
Before you test, you must first have an El
Camino College application on file. A photo
I.D. (such as a driver’s license) plus your El
Camino College I.D. number (the number
received at time of application) is required to
test or obtain copies of past test results.
The placement tests for English, English as
a Second Language (Part 1), and Math are
computerized and given on a drop-in basis—
no appointment is necessary. Other tests,
such as the Chemistry Placement, English as
a Second Language (Part 2), and Math
Competency Tests, are given on an appoint-

All testing is done on campus at the
Assessment/Testing Office, located in Room
217 of the Student Services Center. Testing
must be completed before you register for
courses. Re-testing is limited and may not
be done after you have enrolled in any course
related to the test. Please visit the Testing Web

hours and information on tests.
STEP 3 | Orientation
Welcome to El Camino College! All stu-
dents are encouraged to participate in orienta-
tion and to become familiar with the college
and its resources.
Orientation is offered in different loca-
tions: online at www.elcamino.edu via
MyECC, and in matriculation counseling
groups for new students. Special orientation
sessions are arranged for high school stu-
dents through their high schools. Specialized
orientations are also arranged for students
who participate in the various SSTARS
Programs (see student resources page after
schedule information for a list of programs),
and at our annual New Student Welcome
Day, scheduled for Wednesday, August 25,
2010 at 8:30 a.m. in the Marsee Auditorium.
This is a great way for students to get to
know the campus, learn about academic pro-
grams, services and meet new friends.
STEP 4 | Counseling/
Advisement
Counseling services are available to stu-
dents through scheduled appointments,
express or online counseling. Appointments
must be made one week in advance through
the Counseling Appointment Center.
Appointments can be made Monday
through Thursday in person or by calling
310-660-3458 Mondays. A student who has
selected a major field of study is strongly
encouraged to see one of the counselors
assigned to that field; undeclared and unde-
cided students may see any counselor.

California Residency
To attend El Camino College as a quali-
fied California resident, you must have
established legal residence in the state one
year and one day prior to the start of the
term. In addition, you must meet the two-
year intent provisions of California residen-
cy code and must not have engaged in any
actions that are contrary to establishing res-
idency in the state of California. The bur-

student in accordance with Education Code
Section 68040.
The residence of an unmarried student
under the age of 19 is determined by the
legal residence of the parents. A married
minor determines residency from the date of
marriage and must comply with all provi-
sions of residency as cited above. A person
may not derive residence from a spouse.
Priority Registration
In compliance with Section 51825 of
Title 5, California Administrative Code,
priority registration will be implemented in

Students who have completed equivalent
courses at another college or in high school
must have copies of necessary transcripts.

prerequisites prior to registration. Clearance
for an equivalent course may be obtained in
Drop-In Counseling or the appropriate aca-

Cross Enrollment
at CSU Dominguez Hills
El Camino College students who are eligi-
ble may cross-enroll at CSU Dominguez
Hills without formal admission and without
payment of state university tuition, in a max-
imum of one baccalaureate-level course per
semester on a space-available basis. Such
enrollment would be at the discretion of the
appropriate campus authorities on each of
the campuses.
A student must meet the requirements of
cross enrollment to be eligible. Additional
information on requirements and procedures
may be obtained at the El Camino College
Admissions Office or Counseling Center.
Academic Dishonesty
Academic Dishonesty violates Section I of
El Camino College’s Board Policy 5500
Academic Honesty & Standards of Conduct
The El Camino College is dedicated to
maintaining an optimal learning environ-
ment and insists upon academic honesty. To
uphold the academic integrity of the institu-
tion, all members of the academic commu-
nity, faculty, staff and students alike, must
assume responsibility for providing an edu-
cational environment of the highest stan-
dards characterized by a spirit of academic
honesty.
Examples of academic dishonesty include
but are not limited to:
• Representing the words, ideas, or work of
another as one’s own in any academic
exercise including the use of commercial
term paper companies or online sources
for essays, term papers, or research
papers, whether free or paid.
• Copying from another student or former
student or allowing another student to
copy from one’s work.
• Allowing another individual to assume
one’s identity or assuming the identity of
another individual.
• Changing answers on a previously scored
test, assignment, or experiment with the
intent to defraud.
• Inventing data for the purpose of complet-
ing an assignment, a laboratory experi-
ment, or case study analysis with the
intent to defraud.
• Obtaining or copying exams or test ques-
tions when prohibited by the instructor.
• Giving or receiving information during an
examination or test by any means such as
sign language, hand signals or secret
codes, or through the use of any electron-
ic device.
• Using aids such as notes, calculators, or
electronic devices unless specifically
authorized by the instructor.
• Handing in the same paper or other assign-
ment in more than one class when prohib-
ited by the instructor.
• Any other action which is not an honest
reflection of a student’s own academic
work.
• Other forms of dishonesty, including, but
not limited to, forgery or attempted for-
gery of any academic record; alteration or
misuse of college documents, records or
identification; or knowingly furnishing
false information to the District.
• Unauthorized preparation, giving, selling,
transfer, distribution, or publication, for
any commercial purpose, of any contem-
poraneous recording of an academic pres-
entation in a classroom or equivalent site
of instruction, including but not limited to
handwritten or typewritten class notes,
except as permitted by any District policy
or administrative procedure.
Responsibility of El Camino College
Students
It is the responsibility of each student to
conduct him/herself in a manner which
encourages learning and promotes honesty;
and to act with fairness toward other stu-
dents in the classroom. This incorporates the
notion that students should not seek an
unfair advantage over other students when
completing an assignment, taking an exam-
ination or engaging in any other kind of aca-
demic activity.
Consequences for Academic Dishonesty
When there is evidence or knowledge of
academic dishonesty occurring, any or all of
the following actions may be imposed:
1. The instructor may assign a failing
grade to the examination or assignment in
which the alleged cheating or plagiarism
occurred.
2. The instructor may dismiss the student
from the class or activity for the present
and/or following class session(s) as stipulat-
ed in AP 5520, section C.5: Removal by
Instructor.
3. The instructor may recommend suspen-
sion or expulsion of the student from the
college as stipulated in BP 5500, Section
III.a and V.d. This recommendation must be
in accordance with El Camino College’s
Due Process and Disciplinary Procedure.
4. An Academic Dishonesty Report Form
is filled out by the instructor and copies are
submitted to the division dean and Director
of Student Development. The Director of
Student Development will keep this form in
the student file and take any additional dis-
ciplinary action if deemed appropriate.
Should there be record of multiple incidents
of academic dishonesty or other misconduct
committed by a student, they may be sus-
pended from all classes and campus for up
to two years.

Bookstore Refund
Policy
Merchandise must be in new condition, in
sealed package, clean and free of all markings
and bearing all original tags. A 10% restock-
ing fee may be assessed on all refunds.
Textbooks can be returned for a full refund
within the first week of the Fall and Spring
semester. Textbooks purchased for Winter
and Summer session have three days from the
start of classes to return for a full refund.
Textbooks must be in the same condition as
purchased and must be accompanied with a
register receipt for a full refund. See the
Bookstore for further refund information.
Book Buyback
The Bookstore now provides daily book
buyback. The best time to sell books is dur-
ing finals. The Bookstore will pay up to 50%
back on textbooks if:
A) The book has been requested for an
upcoming semester
B) The Bookstore needs additional stock.
C) There is absolutely no moisture damage
on the book.
D) The only marking on the book are from
a highlighter.
E) No pages have been removed.
F) There are no new editions pending.
Any student purchasing a used book under-
stands that the life of a used book is limited
and that the Bookstore may determine that a
book purchased at the beginning of the
semester in used condition may not be in con-
dition to be resold by the end of that semes-
ter. Students who buy and sell back used
books realize the best value for their money.
Online Bookstore
The Bookstore now has textbook informa-
tion available online. You can look up title
and prices for the textbooks used in your
classes. In addition, textbooks may be pur-
chased online at www.elcamino.edu. Just
click on the Bookstore and order our text-

SSTARS
The El Camino College SSTARS (Student
Success Transfer and Retention Services)
Program operates with a student focus on
retention and success. From assistance in
career counseling and placement to financial
aid, all of El Camino College’s specialized
services are all in one place – with SSTARS.
The Goals of SSTARS
• To improve communication between pro-
grams and community.
• To increase student retention rates and ulti-
mately their success in college.
• To share information about El Camino
College programs and services.
• To celebrate student accomplishments.
• To raise money for the El Camino College
library book depot scholarships and other
student needs.
The SSTARS program was created to bet-
ter serve students by bringing the campus’
various student services together, with the
idea of supporting the collaboration, commu-
nication, and development of services for stu-
dent success, transfer, and retention.
Ultimately, student achievement is the pri-
mary goal of SSTARS.

ASB Student Discount
Sticker
All students are encouraged to purchase an
optional Auxiliary Services Board (ASB)
sticker for their photo ID cards at the
Cashier’s Window, the Student Development
Office, or the Marsee Auditorium Ticket
Office.
The ASB sticker offers a variety of dis-
counts including discount movie theater and
amusement park tickets. Movie theater and
amusement park discount tickets can be pur-
chased (cash only) at the Marsee Auditorium
Ticket Office during its regular operating
hours. On-campus benefits include access to
Activities Center events, free admission to all
campus athletic events, and a discount on
tickets at district-sponsored Center for the
Arts events.
Funds from the sale of the stickers help
support co-curricular activities such as stu-
dent government, clubs, the Union newspa-
per, plays, athletic teams, and the debate
team.
The $10 sticker fee is non-refundable.
Reciprocal Services
for All Students
For your convenience…reciprocal services
are available to students enrolled at both El
Camino College and El Camino College
Compton Center. Students in good standing at
either location have access to services at both
El Camino College and Compton Center,
including the bookstore, library and computer
labs. Additionally, one parking permit is valid
at both ECC and Compton Center.
Child Development
Center
The El Camino College Child
Development Center is located across
Redondo Beach Boulevard from campus in a
fully-equipped million dollar facility with
licensed and credentialed teachers and staff.
The Center is accredited by the National
Association for the Education of Young
Children.
The Center offers two programs. Both are
open to the public as well as to students, staff,
faculty, and their families. The Child
Development Center provides these services:
• A fee-based day program for children
ages 2 years old (toilet trained) through 5
years old. Hours for these services are 6:45
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
• State Funded Pre-School: A free program
for children ages 3-4 by December 2.

Enrollment is based on family income. The
program operates two sessions, Monday
through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A child may only be
enrolled in one of these sessions. Call the
Center for eligibility information.
Application packets are available in the
Child Development Center. For information,
call 310-660-3720. A grant program is avail-
able for qualifying student parents.
Library
The Schauerman Library is an excellent
facility with more than 120,000 volumes and
hundreds of newspapers and periodicals,
making it the research center of campus.
During the fall and spring semesters, the
library is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.,
Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. on Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. Saturday. The winter and summer
session hours vary (please call the library for
these hours). The library is closed when class-
es are not in session.
Materials are grouped throughout the facil-
ities for easy use in Reference and
Reserve/Periodical Rooms as well as in the
general collection book stacks. Open stacks
are maintained to give students direct access
to all books. The Reserve Room contains
material required for some supplementary
assignments and a collection of textbooks
including the Book Depot.
The Reference and Periodical Rooms pro-
vide materials for research. Computers are
available to support library research via online
databases and Web access. Online book cata-
logs are located throughout the library. The
Library Media Technology Center is located
in the East Wing basement and provides com-
puters for word processing, scanning, and
Web access.
A fine of 25 cents a day is charged for over-
due circulating books, with a maximum of $5
for hardcover and $3 for paperback. A three-
day grace period is allowed at the end of each
semester. Lost books are charged at the rate of
the cost of the book plus $10 processing fee.
The facility uses the Library of Congress
classification system. The library lobby is fre-
quently used as an adjunct art gallery, display-
ing works by area artists.
Learning Resources
Center (LRC)
The LRC offers academic support services
and resources – tutoring, instructional soft-
ware and media materials, individualized
instruction in basic reading and math, and
open-access computer labs – at no cost to all
El Camino College students. All LRC servic-
es located in the library are open during

The Learning Resources Center is dedicat-
ed to helping students, faculty, and staff of El
Camino College achieve their academic
goals. The LRC offers programs to enhance
teaching and learning and provides users with
learning opportunities through their use of
audio-visual materials, computer assisted
instruction, and tutorial services in the fol-
lowing areas:
The LMTC Computer Commons
(Library – East Wing, basement) is El Camino
College’s central computer facility that pro-
vides all students and disciplines with a gen-
eral use drop-in computer lab. The Computer
Commons uses fully networked Windows
computers where students have access to a
variety of resources including color and laser
printing, scanning, adaptive access tools and
Internet access on over 160 computers.
Software includes word processing, database,
spreadsheet, presentation, and graphics pro-
grams. Specialized applications support aca-
demic programs including business, comput-
er science, fine arts, health sciences, nursing,
English, ESL, and foreign languages.
The Basic Skills Study Center (Library –
North Wing, upper level) provides individu-
alized computer-assisted instruction in basic
reading and basic math. Students may regis-
ter for the course Academic Strategies 1abcd
(AS 1abcd) or participate in a non-credit
drop-in study program. Entering students will
be given a diagnostic placement test and a
personal plan of study. Both Academic
Strategies and drop-in students will be pro-
vided with access to various software tutorial
applications.
The LRC Tutorial Program (Library –
West Wing, upper level) offers free drop-in
tutoring for over 40 subjects including, but
not limited to, English, ESL, Mathematics,
Chemistry, Economics, Business, Biology,
Music, and foreign languages. All tutoring,
whether located in the LRC or in satellite
locations around the college, is provided by
highly trained, nationally certified tutors. The
current tutoring schedule is posted in the
Learning Center and at the following site:

The Learning Center (Library - West
Wing, upper level) houses an extensive
media-materials collection that supplements
instruction in many academic disciplines. The
media-materials collection includes audio and
video tapes, rocks, disarticulated skeletons,
human anatomy models, maps, text materials,
art, and much more. Equipment is also avail-
able for viewing videos and creating copies of
audio recordings.
Transfer Center Services
Transfer services are offered Monday
through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30
p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00
p.m. in the Counseling Services Center on the
first floor of the Student Services Center
building. The Transfer Center offers a wide
range of activities designed to assist students
in transferring successfully to the four-year
college or university of their choice.
Among the transfer services offered are
professional transfer counseling and advise-
ment, regularly scheduled visits by recruiting
and admissions officers from four-year col-
leges and universities, and workshops on
major steps in the transfer process. Other
services offered include university fairs on
the El Camino College campus and frequent
field trips to an array of major universities.
A calendar of Transfer Center activities is
published monthly and is widely distributed.
A transfer guide is published each semester.

Writing Center
The Writing Center, located in Humanities
122, serves all El Camino College students
who need assistance with writing and read-
ing. The Center offers either one-on-one con-
ferences with highly qualified tutors, all of
whom have a bachelor’s or master’s degree;
or computer-assisted instruction on Microsoft
Word, Internet access, and the use of compo-
sition, editing, or reading software. In addi-
tion, the Center offers weekly workshops on
grammar, documentation, and specialized
writing tasks such as cover letters and
resumes.
To receive services, students must bring
their El Camino College identification card, a
disk or flash drive if they intend to save their
work, and a writing assignment from class if
they intend to request a writing conference.
All services are drop in; no appointment is
necessary. A referral from an instructor or
counselor is desirable. Writing Center hours
are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through
Thursday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday. The

The mission of the Special Resource
Center (SRC) is to facilitate academic suc-
cess for verified students with disabilities
by providing equal access to educational
opportunities in an integrated campus set-
ting. The SRC provides support services,
adaptive equipment, computer technology,
and specialized instruction designed to
meet the educational needs of students
with disabilities.
In order to be eligible for support servic-
es or accommodations, a student must pro-
vide documentation of his/her disability or
be assessed by SRC professional staff.
Eligibility is determined by specially
trained, highly skilled professional staff.
Specific educational needs are identified
on an individual basis and a plan is devel-
oped with each student. Examples of serv-
ices or accommodations include but are
not limited to: American Sign Language
interpreters, testing accommodations,
access technologies, or printed materials
made available in alternate formats.

Parking, Traffic and Safety
The El Camino College Police Department
is in charge of the personal safety and securi-
ty of all who attend classes, as well as all who
are employed by El Camino College.
The Vehicle Code Laws of the State of
California, the ordinances of Los Angeles
County and the Traffic and Parking
Regulations of the El Camino Community
College District are in effect 24 hours per
day, seven days per week and are enforced
by the El Camino College Police Department
pursuant to section 21113 (a) (c) of the
California Vehicle Code.
Anyone parking in district parking lots is
required to display a valid El Camino
College parking permit in his/her vehicle.
Semester parking permits are available for
purchase from the Cashier’s Office located in
the Administration Building. Daily parking
permits are available for $2.00 from parking
permit machines located in the parking lots.
Parking regulations are enforced seven
days per week, 24 hours a day throughout the
year, including weekends and holidays,
unless otherwise specified. Vehicles parking
in staff parking areas must display a valid El
Camino College staff parking permit.
Students/visitors and the general public may
park in staff parking areas on weekends and
holidays with a valid El Camino College stu-
dent or daily parking permit. Parking avail-
ability is subject to change, and lots may be
closed or restricted for special events.
Temporary medical parking arrangements
can be made at Parking Services/Campus
Police.

available to El Camino Community College
District directors, deans and other manage-
ment personnel for a fee through the

campus. The “POLICE” telephones can also
be used for reporting emergencies and suspi-
cious activity. You may reach the police
department in an emergency situation by
dialing 9-1-1 from any pay telephone on
campus or by dialing 310-660-3100 from a
cellular telephone.
First aid, as well as help in all emergency
situations, is provided through the police
department.

Student Right to Know Information

The El Camino College Police Department provides professional law enforcement services to the El Camino College campus com-
munity. The police department is located at the corner of Redondo Beach and Crenshaw boulevards in Parking Lot K. The police depart-
ment provides emergency first aid service in emergency situations. You may reach the police department by calling 310-660-3100.
The police department is open 24 hours per day. In accordance with the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy
and Campus Crime Statistics Act, campus police has posted campus security and safety information, and all required statistical data on
