Chapter : Discovery

In this chapter both parties started conducting depositions. After hearing the
Richard’s tragedy for the death of his son, Facher feared that he would lose if
all the family members were allowed to testify so he had a second thought to
setting the case and admittedly that this case was not a cheaper case than
those he handled before.

Schlictmann interrogated some of the workers of Beatrice but all allegations

were being denied by them. A person named Al Love was interrogated by
Schlictmann who was an employee of Beatrice at the same time lived in East
Woburn. Love denied all his knowledge in disposing chemicals at backyard of
the plant. Conway suggested Schlictmann to ask about the water in the
Woburn since he likewise lived there. Schlictmann began asking series of
question followed up by asking about the health conditions of his family. It was
revealed that his family suffered from different medical condition. Al Love was
bother by his denial so his wife advised her to talk to Anne Anderson since they
lived adjacent to her home.

Al Love talk to Anne and told what he knew about the dumped of chemicals.
Schlictman able to talk to other employees who had personal knowledge in
disposed chemicals. Based on this, Schlictman notified US attorney, and
federal investigation began. Further discovery showed that a significant
amount of chemicals had been disposed directly into the ground.

Schlictman deposed John Railey, owner of tannery, he denied knowledge of

polluting 15 acre land as well as the usage of TCE. The disposition of other
Woburn people revealed that dumping had taken places for years, however,
Schlictman was not able to uncover so much of anything in terms of evidence
and written documentations.
